Minions are alien visitors from another kind of game

Rogue 2nd level utility an encounter power

What happened to the Half-Elf's multiclass power? Do they not get that now? Did they never get it? The amount of trained skills don't seem to add up with stuff from DDXP either, wierd.

You Never Pit 9th Lvl Minions Against 1st Lvl PCs.

Three levels? Seriously? They talk about how Monsters work so much better both up and down, then, oh whoops, the xp system only works out of the book three levels either way. *sigh* I know that's probably a conservitive estimate, it doesn't mean you can't use them, just that how useful, and...

Uhm, I'm not quite sure what you though my point was, or what this has to do with it. Especially since I didn't really have a point besides "that sticks in my throat a bit".

9th level minions with one hp. Blah. Not really impressed by the whole "never takes damage on a miss" either. If I fireball the Minions, I expect to kill them, no save.

Paladin is more of a striker?

Thing is, this trick isn't really "strikery", you're still using your abilities to make it a worse proposition to attack characters which aren't you, and you still don't have any obvious movement based powers. Ranged Defender, sure, which is a bit wierd, but not Striker. If it was, they would...

    D&D 4E Point buy, 4e & you.

You're assuming you get the same amount of points, which is obviously false. The point is that in a weighted system, if you wanted to play a 14 int as a Barbarian, you're penalized less for it (18 str to 16 str) whereas in a non-weighted system you'd have to give up 6 points of your physical...

Tree eats Man. "This shambling carnivore catches prey with its thick, ropelike arms and traps it in the mucky mass of its body, where countless rootlets bore into the victim." Good family fun :) http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4dnd/artpreview

    D&D 4E Point buy, 4e & you.

Weighted/diminishig returns systems encourage more well rounded characters, and give more "real" choices. One for one systems encourage maxing out your stats from most important downwards untill you run out of points. Also, what Xorn said.

D&D 4E Will the 4E classes be deliberately unbalanced to get players to read?

I agree. I just meant to point out for the non-mathematicians that "+.275 per swing" is slightly less crappy than it sounds. It also, unlike backstabber, works with any weapon/spell/attack and gets proportionally better as you get into more trouble. It also stacks with backstabber. Not as good...

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

I was refering to fighting with two longswords, which is possible, but incredibly suboptimal in 3.x. I don't say this much, but making it "impossible" is actually very videogamy, I see the point, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. Probably, yes. All math is interesting ;). More seriously...

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

Fair enough. I guess it's part of the whole "no suboptimal choices thing". Pff, small characters do 1 die type smaller damage, like they always have. The details are just details. I'm amused that you're saying this is overpowered, and Torchlyte in another thread is saying the feat which does...

D&D 4E Will the 4E classes be deliberately unbalanced to get players to read?

Yet they made improved toughness anyway, which was at least slightly less useless.

D&D 4E Are 4E Paladins and Clerics MAD?

There is a str based Paladin at will that we've seen, although it does add chr/wis damage on top if you've marked the target. -edit Damn Ninjas

D&D 4E Will the 4E classes be deliberately unbalanced to get players to read?

Short answer, No. D&D is designed to be co-operative, not competitive, as such having highly varied power levels between characters is a Bad Thing. D&D is designed so that characters are played for upwards of 12 months, and for people to have emotional connection to characters they create...

D&D 4E Will the 4E classes be deliberately unbalanced to get players to read?

Actually, because of 4e's crit system, you have to remember it's the equivelent of an average of about .55 damage per hit, (assuming an 11 is required to hit) which of course increases to 1.1 at a crit range 19-20. it also makes proportionally more difference as it becomes harder to hit, making...

D&D 4E Will the 4E classes be deliberately unbalanced to get players to read?

Yeah, they're not just no longer intentionally putting system mastery in, they're going out of their way to keep as small a difference as possible, From what I've read, Mearls in particular seems to find the idea of having to play and "study" to understand the ruleset enough to make the...

Sure, I don't have a problem with the choice, but it does make the picture less interesting, a better picture would have made up for it with composition, positioning or an action scene somehow, I see this picture as the equivalent of a picture of an assassin vine which isn't currently strangling...
