Kruthiks A bit too much "mud coloured" for me. Doesn't really stand out.

    Excerpt: skill challenges

Short answer, no. 3.x Diplomacy was "I get 57, Thor is now my butt-monkey!". If you Look at the example there are 3-4 "pre-established" rolls, and it requires 8 to "beat" it, for the other 5, you have to actually explain to the DM what you are doing, and why it will help.

See, that ones good (or at least fine), it's just "winter wolf TO THE MAX", I'm not completely won over by 4e's TO THE MAX design style, but assuming that was the way they were going to go, that's a fine winter wolf, but the Guulvorg adds new things which aren't just "Worg TO THE MAX" (eg tail...

    D&D 4E Is 4E retro?

Uhm, what are talking about? A Town Guard is by definition normal guy with a couple of weeks training and a spear. Your point was that 4e PCs are supposedly "a cut above this". Since an 8th level 3.x PC can completely ignore Town Guards and a 4e one can't, that completely negates your assertion...

    Whence two-weapon fighting?

I don't believe two weapon fighting will be a feat, or an ability, I don't think it will be possible (or at least very much not easy) to ever gain the ability to use two weapon fighting on your basic attacks or on normal powers, I think two weapon fighting will be a suite of powers which require...

    Shift vs Move vs AoO?

Actually, that's exactly what happening in 3.x with thicket of blades, and it was completely confusing as to what it actually meant, 4e has fixed this, by making "shift" a specific type of movement which doesn't normally provoke AoOs. Note the Fighter ability specifically states "can make an...

    Conclusions after three play tests

Something I see with the playtests, is that people get more fun out of the Ranger and the Warlock when their movement powers actually come into play, when Fights are set up with rolling boulders and pits and encounters where there are obvious "squishies" for them to shoot, if you fighting 2...

    Tiefling in PHB

    There's a better version here. Dial-up beware.

D&D 4E How would 4E improve my game?

Ways 4e is better.... 1)class bonus to AC means you don't have to implement one yourself 2)lack of spellcasting with abilities which can duplicate magic item use, meaning using a low magic setting broadens the existing power gaps 3)more equal item dependancy accross the board and most...

Predicting the joy of Paragon tier

Ahem. Although, yes, there may be no class specific ones in the PHB, although I personally expect Dwarven Defender and Bladesinger to be honest.

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

That's.... that's about what I was thinking.... Damn, what is the world coming too? Instead of? No, although just taking your Paragon Path from one appropriate your "secondary class" looks like it would work pretty well. It is pretty annoying the PP article said "refer to multiclassing" and...

    D&D 4E Yet another 4E demo experience

Probably not necessary, most characters will allready be adding at least that much from magic items, feats and other abilities anyway, the problem is first level characters don't have ony of those yet, so crits can be a bit underwhelming.

People are forgetting the fact that we know there's racial Paths, aren't they?

EXACTLY. Which is simulated far better in 4e by just taking skill training theivery. (or in 3.x by taking that feat from races of destiny, although even that becomes less useful later on) Yeah, that's exactly what I said. I said "I want to be able to do everything and be a complete munchkin"...

    The new multiclassing: comboclassing

It's called the Oberoni Fallacy. It's appropriate so I'll post it.

And if the idea in your head isn't like Rincewind or Roger Wilco except without the amazing ability to suceed without skill, you would do well to follow those rules. Okay, see, no. The problem is that if your a 12th level Wizard, those things aren't "of value" to you at all. Not in the...

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

Let me put it this way, I see Fighter/Warlords working fine and dandy, and Warlord/Wizards being awsome, but assuming Fighters need 2 to 3 stats like everyone else seems to, the question is whether adding a fourth stat hurts you too much, especially without stat boosters. Then again, if the...

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

Apparently I wasn't clear, I meant spellcasters were cut off from multiclassing, not the other way around, it's such a big deal it's on the ten commandments of optimization twice. You can make divine multclassed characters, but it often ended up poorly, and multiclassing arcane casters required...

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

Cutting off multiclassing from an entire power source was not "a few details". The idea that Arcane power is more "special" than other sources of power is exactly the type of geek wankery led us to so many editions of overpowered Wizards and people thinking monsters have to be spellcasters to be...
