    Inspired Recovery

It's really useful for situations where characters need to shake off a condition ASAP. Say, for example, that your Rogue is immobilized and all enemies are out of flanking position. Spend an action point, likely get rid of the immobilizing effect, and go to town. It's not too bad and not too...

    Double Weapon questions

Ah, gotcha. I suppose it does give those bonuses more efficiently if that's what you're looking for.

    Double Weapon questions

I'm confused by this particular (underlined) statement. From where are you getting the 2 attacks? Double weapons don't multiply one's melee basic attack by themselves.

Off the Farm (Forked Thread: Telling a story with 4th Edition)

For nostalgia's sake, I recently cracked open my old copy of Icewind Dale, a computer game based on AD&D rules. I hadn't played it in years, and therefore hadn't started any new characters in just as long. Given my much newer experience with 4e, I could no longer fathom the fact that Wizards...

    What are Tieflings good at?

Honestly, I have to agree. Tiefling Rogues may fit the theme of a trickster or devilish sort of Rogue flavor-wise (and the Bluff bonus is nice), but that lack of a Dex bonus is definitely felt. I'm suddenly wishing there was a Rogue build that took better advantage of Bluff bonuses (as Rattling...

    Curious about Ruthless Ruffian

Sorry, but I'm not getting the comparison. First, Rogues are strikers. They're meant to deal more damage than defenders. Second, the math you're using assumes a Ruthless Ruffian, correct? That's not the point of the OP. A more appropriate comparison would be made by comparing Ruthless Ruffians...

    What are Tieflings good at?

Wow. These have been some fantastic replies, and I'm glad this is generating some discussion. But now that I've seen how they can be effective, why does it seem they get such a bad rap? Am I just imagining that?

    Halfling Staff Wizard . . . impossible?

    Ah, you're right. Missed that.

    Halfling Staff Wizard . . . impossible?

I'm particularly baffled by the textbox on AV page 10. It clearly references a "small" property which NO WEAPONS HAVE. I like that 4e gives small characters a nice upgrade for one-handed weapons, but as far as 2-handed weapons go, they really got the short end of the stick.

    What are Tieflings good at?

I love the idea of tieflings, flavor-wise. But I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around where and how they can be effective mechanics-wise. As I'm sure a great many of you have noticed, they simply lack the synergies needed to excel in a lot of classes and builds. Many people call them the...

Footwork Lure + Polearm Momentum = At-Will Knock Prone?

Looks viable to me. And for that matter, whether or not it's intended, it looks to be in line with the rest of the Martial Power stuff: lots of candy for everyone!

    Healing Surges

I like #7 too, but I'm confused as to how it's different from #1, which I also like.

Allowing halflings to use medium mounts

I think it should work well; especially since it allows riding dwarves to get around those troublesome encumbrance limitations.

    Melee Ranger At-Wills?

Um, not sure if this is what you are referring to, bu even heavy thrown weapons won't use Str. Which stat you use is power based, and so far only ranged basic attacks allow the heavy/light thrown flexibility (correct me if I'm wrong).

Suffocation, Thirst, and Hunger as disease tracks

Hmm... one thought: reduce the [R] to one round, and the DCs to attack: +1[R] and Endurance: I:10+1[R]/M:5+1[R]. This would make the effects stack slowly, but by the time the attack succeeds, chances are things will be pretty hairy. Perhaps also a line allowing DMs to abbreviate it to 10[R]...

Suffocation, Thirst, and Hunger as disease tracks

I was thinking about this myself. This is definitely one of those grey areas where we walk the line between cinematics and simulation. I like the idea of making it per round (I hesitate to make [R] 2 or more rounds, since people would have the tendency to forget about regularly applying it), but...

Suffocation, Thirst, and Hunger as disease tracks

Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps I can tweak the wording, but essentially the attacks per [R] indicate how often they are "attacked" by the condition and how often they make Endurance checks. This separates it from the disease mechanic, which makes attacks upon exposure and Endurance checks...

Suffocation, Thirst, and Hunger as disease tracks

The title says it all. I just thought these up, and I'm pretty sure the math is a little (or a lot) off, and the conditions inflicted are pretty similar to one another. Chances are, I also missed a few typos, so please nitpick. What do you think? Suffocation, thirst, and hunger tracks: These...
