Something, I think, Every GM/DM Should Read

i am the one crying out loud now you want to include and iron gauntlet and a block....sure, whatever. let me turn this into a game-time scenario the way everyone seems to be arguing it. player: I punch the snake dm: ...uh....ok....why? player: I want to knock it prone dm: I'm gonna say that a...

Something, I think, Every GM/DM Should Read

that was the scenario - can you punch a snake prone, and not one person provided a useful explanation. All I got was "you're unfair" or "that's not how you should play" or"you can pick up a snake" or "use the flat end of your weapon" or "why does it have to be a punch" from your post, I would...

Something, I think, Every GM/DM Should Read

again - for the eleventeenth million time...a punch knocks the snake prone. at my table, if a player says "I'm going to hit it with my sword" then he attacks using his sword, if he says "I'm going to try and grab it" then he makes that appropriate attempt. If a player says "I'm going to punch...

Something, I think, Every GM/DM Should Read

YES YES YES the whole point of this is how do you handle the rarest of the rare scenarios trust is at the very core of all of this discussion, if you think "the dm is out to get me" or "the dm is unfair to me" then for goodness sake, find a dm that you DO trust. the way we play is obviously out...

Something, I think, Every GM/DM Should Read

after sitting on the bench for 5 pages, I'm tagging back in I find it ironic that some folks disagreed with me, but then argue there points in such a way that backs up everything i have said. Let be perfectly clear on several points here. 1st- All of the following "rules" are home-brewed and I...

Feat Taxes, or, It's That Time of the Week Again

wow - I would be scared to have some of you guys sit in at our table, for fear that we are playing WAY wrong. at first level we were getting pummeled - like veal. When we all leveled up to level 2, the 3 "in front guys" took toughness. They were then surviving, where as the some of the middle...

Feat Taxes, or, It's That Time of the Week Again

ok, I am sooo not meaning this to be combative or argumenative, I am genuinely ignorant to this, but dude, you just typed in a language I don;t speak. Why does % of increase factor into a 1st level character? at that point, isnt sheer number of HP the real concern? then you got into flr, and...

Something, I think, Every GM/DM Should Read

did we switch scenarios? if the player uses a power and the dm decides it doesnt work, then the player should either try something else, or figure out why it didnt work by a means that doesn't involve quoting a rule book he shouldn't have access to, or throwing his pencil or slamming a door...

Feat Taxes, or, It's That Time of the Week Again

if you make a 30th level character, then yeah, toughness might not be so great if you make a 1st level character, it REALLY comes in handy (almost to the point of being a must have for the defender, no?)

    Supernatural TV show RPG

Supernatural is one of a very few "appointment TV" shows for me. one of our DM's planned an adventure all based off Supernatural, and he mistakenly thought he was the one of us watching the show (this was 4 years ago) - me and another guy caught on quickly to the yellow eyed demon.

Something, I think, Every GM/DM Should Read

you seem to be not comparing the like terms the crybaby players are similar in the two stories. As are the placing of the manticore and the snake ruling. You seem to be comparing the ruling with the player in your game that complained. To answer your question, what should I have done, there...

Feat Taxes, or, It's That Time of the Week Again

again, I hate to bring down the average intelligence level of this thread with my own brand of dim-wittedness, but... is toughness a feat-tax too? Isn't it in the "must have" range of feats? also - 20 rounds for an epic fight and only two hours isnt so bad. In a 2e game I played in, the big...

Feat Taxes, or, It's That Time of the Week Again

I love irony Those make perfect sense - and you summed it up properly...the snakes would behave as snakes. Is it a perfect fix? I would argue there is never such a thing.

Do you prepare bands of NPC adventurers?

I like to build more than one "bad guy group" over the course of a campaign. recently I began a turn as DM at my game(4e), and I introduced a theives guild of kenkus, all the minions and soldiers and the "leader" all met untimely ends, but the kenku assassin and sneak both got away. They(both...

Feat Taxes, or, It's That Time of the Week Again

here is my next question about this.... how many rounds is a combat encounter "supposed" to go in the minds of people who give a crap about that sort of thing?

    The 1-square charge

OnlineDM thanks for your patience It says "move your speed as part of your charge and make a melee basic attack or bull rush" that is why I thought you could not take some 'other move action' that wasn't a move instead. thanks for the knowledge

    The 1-square charge

OK, after re-reading my feeble argument I did an incredibly poor job of trying to make my point. To sum it up (and I'll probably fumble this one too) I don't think you can use your move action "not moving" and still charge You have to move to charge, and you can't take any other move action...
