    SkyNet really is ... here?

They're just word engines. If you feed them unethical concepts, they will return unethical results. I'm still not a fan.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I can't really afford it, at the moment, but I can currently retire with an unreduced pension due to age+years of employment. Still, it's a joking threat I use against my manager when he's being annoying ;)

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

That sucks :( I'm back to work tomorrow as well. Really makes me think about that whole retirement thing again.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

There are a few species on Earth that are effectively immortal, barring predation or incident, but I would tend to think that works against them developing sentience via evolution. At least it would seriously slow the process.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Yup. They're two very different questions: "Does alien life exist?" and, "Have we been visited by aliens?" If we assume that intelligent life is a fairly rare thing then we live in a detection bubble that is roughly 249 light years across (first radio signal sent in Dec. 1901). The odds of...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I still regret not going to Twede's Cafe, the place that served as the Double R Diner, when I was a whole 5 miles away from the place at Snoqualmie Falls (the waterfall in the opening credits).

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Quite the opposite, I would think. From Mirriam Webster: Infer vs. Imply: Usage Guide Sir Thomas More is the first writer known to have used both infer and imply in their approved senses in 1528 (with infer meaning "to deduce from facts" and imply meaning "to hint at"). He is also the first to...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Far too many times I've seen "emotionally distant" be found attractive, by woman. Worked fairly well for me, as well, 40ish years ago 😂

Which Chips (or Fries) Are the Best?

I hadn't even noticed that it existed. Heinz has a "no sugar added" that has less than a gram per tablespoon, so that may also be an option.

Which Chips (or Fries) Are the Best?

I've been using salsa for the last few years, because of the stupidly high amount of sugar in ketchup, but I think I'm going to look into this as a possible substitute as well. Thanks.

And Bobcaygeon is a really nice place, in the off season.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

I'm really sorry that you feel that way. Clearly we aren't going to have a meeting of the minds here as our experiences and viewpoints are just too far apart.

Judge decides case based on AI-hallucinated case law

Which is why he's trying to build a machine to do it for him. It could only do better.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I would argue that a batard is a greater pain, because he's also French.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

The line is crossed, obviously. How often depends on how many people make their beliefs known and force them upon others, compared to the number who don't. The first can be known. The second? Not so much. Yes, she charges for readings, and it's on the "for entertainment" basis. She's not...

That would be "batard" ;) It came up, in French class, in 12th grade.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Would you know if someone believed in something, if they never told you so? I previously mentioned that I have a friend who is a medium. She's never tried to make me believe. I have friends who believe in crystals and psychic healing. Oddly enough they only use these things as 'aids' to more...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

And if they're a phenomenon that is only perceptible mentally, in some way, we would likely need much different tools than we have today, to detect them. Detecting the changes in a subject's brain wouldn't be sufficient proof. Different people might perceive the effects in different ways, with...
