After Game of Thones/George RR Martin who takes the mantle as the upcming fantasy

Brandon Sanderson and his Cosmere comes to mind. But I'm not sure anything close to Pottermania or GoTmania will happen any time soon. One of the reasons why they were so popular was because they moved from books to cinemas and TVs.

Is Azathoth, the daemon sultan at the center of the universe.....

All of Lovecraft's creations have been in the public domain for a while now, but it does vary from one country to the next. I believe the law in the US says they become public 75 years after an author's death. 50 years in Canada. This is why you might have scene James Bond lit sold by Canadian...

    Your Tropes are Touching Me!

Cannibal barbarian halflings make Dark Sun awesome! Dark Sun truly did try to subvert many fantasy tropes. Ashame the first novels made the original box obsolete and that many of the source and splat books were terrible.

[3 Hearts and 3 Lions] How was it influenced you (and fiction)?

Dracula ain't much of a blue print for a D&D game, even set in Ravenloft. Too much of the action takes place with characters alone and not in a group. That doesn't work with D&D. Having a player seduced by a vampire might lead to a few hours of good roleplay... for the DM and one player. All of...

[3 Hearts and 3 Lions] How was it influenced you (and fiction)?

Not to be that guy, but I'll be that guy and say The Lord of the Rings had more influence on my early D&D games than any other text or film, foundational or not. Some stories with Conan, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser where cool, but they mostly made you say "Oh, so this is where the demilich comes...

What are you reading? (August 2017)

I'm waiting for Infomocracy by Malka Ann Older to arrive by mail. I do not like ereaders and I want a physical copy that I can keep and lend. Anyway, I'm really curious to read about direct democracy. "It's been twenty years and two election cycles since Information, a powerful search engine...

What are you reading [Jul 2017]?

Yeah, the only way I can describe her style is with the word "jumpcut". Still, I'm enjoying it is so far. SOme cyberpunk themes mixed with space opera. With refugees. I'm curious to see how the refugee situation is presented as it is topical.

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's wizards.com page

I use quotes. They are part of he English language. Useful when quoting or paraphrasing. Get over it. Two years is ancient nowadays? I blame the internet. Talking about empires and mentioning Rome I guess I would be dragging ancient history into the mix, would be a major faux pas and I would be...

Tot? Anyway, maybe. We'll see how they do their marketing after Xanathar's Guide to 80% Filler. I'm still thinking they are more confident with their production.

I didn't complain. Attack those who do if you are that sensitive about it. I was making an observation about WotC's marketing. Using facts. You know, so that my observation wasn't out of the blue and was backed up. No need to get sensitive about that.

    Wonder Woman Spoilery Review

It is near Turkey. Remember Turkey? Turkey is where Chris Pine stole Dr. Poison's notebook and stole a plane. The same plane he was in when he crashed near the island. Now, I'm not too familiar with WWI planes, but I'm pretty sure the plane he stole didn't have enough fuel to fly from Turkey to...

Wow. Sensitive much when people talk about WotC? I simply stated a fact to point out an apparent change in marketing strategy. Why get all defensive? You do not even work for WotC.
