    Powers and Skills

This, also, if you read the stuff about siloing, and look at wizard powers, the utility powers are kept seperate from the attack powers, meaning that if first level characters had access to utility powers, then the example characters we've seen would have them.

Just here to point out Utility powers don't start untill level 2.

    D&D 4E My Big 4e Hurdle: Well-Rounded vs Lopsided

Thing is, as a Cleric or Paladin, what are you getting from dex that you aren't getting from int? Ranged weapons? You already have ranged at will attacks that will do more damage and provide nice effects on top. Sure a bow has more range, but it also uses two hands. So your essentially choosing...

    D&D 4E My Big 4e Hurdle: Well-Rounded vs Lopsided

One of the Paladin at wills at D&DEXP had a power which was str to hit & dmg and gave +3(I assume either chr or wis) damage one top of that if you'd marked the creature.

    Dispel Magic

Probably, I'll try to keep it in mind. The mantra is "everyone will have something interesting to do" not "everyone can do everything", it's the same as the change in skills, there's always going to be a gradiation of usefulness, and a Wizard with dispel able to completely remove an effect in...

    Dispel Magic

Pff, this is why you aren't a game designer, most conjurations are summoned things which can be smacked, thus an ability which just gets rid of them is in no way necessary to be able to "do something". Zones are things like grease and icestorm, Martial characters get better physical skills which...

Help me out. PoL. Why don't small towns get overrun?

Do you actually read the information available when you go off on these rants? 4e scales much slower than 3.x and numbers make more difference, if you read the playtest reports, PCs regularly beat up higher level creatures and almost as regularly are TPKd by overwhelming numbers, both of which...

Help me out. PoL. Why don't small towns get overrun?

Thank you Piestro, I only read the first paragraph of that post the first time around and assumed I understood the post, I'm glad you suggested I read it properly :D.

Help me out. PoL. Why don't small towns get overrun?

I'm not disagreeing with your point, but next time you argue about the important of plot relavance over a consistant long standing world, you probably shouldn't use Tolkien as an example :D.

    Dispel Magic

I don't think you can actually move the sphere, so don't worry, D&D physics isn't going to be making sense anytime soon.

Help me out. PoL. Why don't small towns get overrun?

For "hardcore" PoL, one would assume most decent sized villages have at least a motte and baily(or cultural equivelent), and adults of the appropriate gender would be trained (if very poorly) for combat. Smaller places would generally only get by if nobody really knew they were there, or there...

    Dispel Magic

Actually, yeah, even things like telekentic sphere have hp now, so I guess we already have that ability, and it's called "a basic attack". :D

Playtest Reactions: "Return of the Burning Plague"

Looks like you had lots of fun. Good to see that happening.

    Class Skills vs Cross-class Skills

Having never felt restricted by the class system as a whole (although I have a problem with specific 3.x classes, such as the fighter and Sorcerer) I'd have to say my opinion is it's worth it. You also said opportunity cost, I agreed that with more consolidated and powerful skills in general...

    D&D 4E 4e houserules

I don't like the way the Mirror image works, but since everything else I haven't liked has been changed, I'm pretty much expecting that to have been changed too.

Blog post on the feel of D&D (marmell, reynolds et all)

If true, it would make most people's first experiance of D&D actually play like D&D's supposed to play. How can this not be a Good Thing?

    The Monster Code

I believe someone told me that hp was based off of role * level + con, essentially like player hp, replacing class/player role for moster role, and without the extra kicker at first level. Elites get x2, Solos get x5 (not sure about minions) Total damage per round is also based off of level (&...

    WoTC Rich: Beholder!

Yes, yes, Beholders are the epitomy of 3.x's "annoying fights where the Players feel powerless to affect the battle, but the fight takes hours because the particular abiltity the monster has which allows it shut down the players prevents it from quickly killing them". Yes, it's not that hard...

I got to play Scalegloom and Escape from Sembia

While the character can't do anything about it, other characters can. The Paladin has an ability to give characters an extra save as a minor, and I believe you can use heal as a standard to to give someone an extra save. Doesn't make it less annoying if those options aren't available though.

Ranged Strikers - more "aggro" mechanics?

Please stop using that word if you don't know what it means. Quarry rules have as much to do with simulating fast moving chaotic combat as they have to do with making it a fun game. It's abstracted and simplified because people pissing around with string and arguing over LoS doesn't simulate...
