Is there any way to make a viable enchanter?

Thanks for the input. I'm not seeing any wahoo super-powered ideas, but I kind of figured that. Still leaves their biggest achilles heal, of course: non-living things. Especially undead...

    Character Generation

They were on a giant-sized flying ship, so they had plenty to swing on. But the lack of evasion and uncanny dodge made them dead wet meat on a stick.

    Character Generation

Eh, it didn't seem as bad as the swashbuckler. I was DMing against 20th level characters and gave some giants a bunch of levels in swashbuckler, instead of fighter/rogue, which was my original intent. Man, did those suckers drop quick! Yeek.

Is there any way to make a viable enchanter?

I don't seem to have any of the mythical huge number of 3rd party books with +DC feats. As a matter of fact, I've had trouble finding *any* abilities that boost spell DCs. That's one of the things I hated about the Spell Focus nerfs in 3.5 -- I've never seen "all these abilities" that increase...

    Character Generation

I know the class is substandard, but that seems a little extreme!

Only SIX d20/OGL books on island scenario

Changed my mind already. I'd dump the FR book for the Psychic's Handbook from Green Ronin. Way cool psionics rules!

    Metagaming is bad.

The question is not whether the DM is metagaming or whether metagaming is good or not. The question is: is the DM doing a good job so that everyone is enjoying themselves? If everyone is having fun, then it doesn't matter if the DM is metagaming or outright pulling things out of his butt.

Is there any way to make a viable enchanter?

I've never played an enchanter in any version of D&D. Spells that have no effect on a save are, in my opinion, useless -- especially with all the DMs I've had over the years whose NPCs make their saving throws suspiciously often. But I've been vaguely wondering -- is there any way to make a...

Silence and the rogue's sneak attack

Mark this day on your calender: I agree with Thanee completely! ;) It's such a common thing in fantasy that it should just be a regular ol' option...

    Balor vs Solar Q

Clearly, it would cut of the Solar's head and not unduly inconvenience him, because that is the *coolest* thing that can happen. Given a choice between coolness and rules correctness, *always* go with coolness, baby!

Should prestige classes be better than base classes?

Hey, Charwoman! Long, long time no see! :) Going with what I'd like to see -- I'd like a system somewhat like Shadowrun. (Gee! Big shocker there! ;) ) Shadowrun had a modified point buy system. You had several categories (race, money, ability scores, magic, and skills) that you set a...

    Does your group costume?

I chose the last one, but it would be more of "Hell no, I'd shoot them in the head!" Dressing up is fine for the RenFest. Not for day-to-day gaming.

Should prestige classes be better than base classes?

TANSTAAFL comes from "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by Robert Heinlein. I could be a Heinlein scholar if I had any desire to be such. :) The problem with statements of what prestige classes *should* be is that all of them, if you use the right evidence, are *true*. Game design at WotC has...

Only SIX d20/OGL books on island scenario

Hmm. Saying the d20 SRD is cheating, but it's hard to come up with a list of only 6 otherwise... 1) d20 SRD. (I never liked mind flayers, anyway!) 2) Unearthed Arcana. 3) Arcana Evolved 4) Iron Heroes 5) Traveller d20 6) FR Campaign Setting book If someone else is going to be there with me...

    Character Generation

Anything goes from WotC, show me third party stuff first, and have fun! I'll help my wife out on characters, 'cause she's not a munchkin like the rest of us. No one has an unfair advantage if everyone is as wahoo as everyone else. :)

Should prestige classes be better than base classes?

Frankly, I expected a whole lot more people to want to dump PrC's entirely.

    Munchkinizing for movement rate

Cool factor, and it's one of the few things I *haven't* munchkinized in 3e yet. It's hard to come up with something new when you've been playing and DMing as long as I have. :)

Should prestige classes be better than base classes?

Unfair! No one is allowed to post my ideas whilst I am away! I protest! They came forward in time and stole my idea! I'd feel bad about it if I hadn't been away for a year or so. :) Oh, and you're both fluffy bunnies. :p

Should prestige classes be better than base classes?

All the best questions are loaded. They aren't worth discussing, otherwise. ;) I've found that the better prestige classes are better than being high level in a base class, anyway. Why not go all out and just have it be policy?

Should prestige classes be better than base classes?

For a "yes", I'm thinking that the prestige class should be noticably better than a base class. Think the most unbalanced prestige classes of 3.0 -- like the ninja in the fighter book, or the blade dancer in OA. You don't sacrifice abilities to get others -- you've gotten specific feats...
