D&D 5E (2014) Whats your Favorite Unpublished Setting?

Official unpublished? Uh... eberron right now I guess. It flips back and forth to Dragonlance. As far as UNPUBLISHED by ANYONE, I gotta plug myself. My world of Equinox takes the favorite elements of my child hood gaming and mashed them all together. Lots of Final Fantasy (both old and recent)...

D&D 5E (2014) Don't know if this is the best place to put this , but I have questions about the En5ider service.

I have no idea about what this actually IS, or rather what exactly it comes with. Disclaimer, I have never used Patreon so when I click the En5ider thing it takes me to the Patreon page. There it says I can pledge some amount of money PER article. I was under the impression this was a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Proficiency Die Variant

Instead of having the standard +2, +3 etc. You essentially have +d4, +d6 etc. It's a bit more swingy but more fun IMO. It's also strictly better mathematically averaging out at a .5 increase overall compared to flat bonuses..

    D&D 5E (2014) Proficiency Die Variant

Proficiency die works pretty well with 13th age's escalation die. But Prof die as is, is pretty good on its own.

Sage Advice: The Rules of Spellcasting

Wasn't there some kind of exploit with cantrips being level 0 spells. I forget what exactly but it was a big topic. Why did he not address that at all?

D&D 5E (2014) Level Up! DING, fries are done!

I really like how 13th age does level ups with the incremental advances. Instead of "Level up and step up in power", each advancement (milestone) you get to pick between increasing HP, Attack, getting new spells, getting a new ability from the next level etc. I might write up some sort of rules...

    D&D 5E (2014) What 5E really needs

Good read. I agree. Love more modules and rules. I was expecting that was what 5e was going to be built around. It has done a lot of what it was promised but I feel that the clearly defined modularity of the game has kind of failed or faded into a lot of just... variant rules. They are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Classes you're hoping WotC will create

I want a Psion (as do many others), but on a rather obscure note, I'd love to see a Horizon Walker subclass for Ranger. I always thought they were really freaking cool conceptually.

    Testing the waters.....

Came up with an idea a while back and it's been swirling around in my head but i'm not sure how much traction I would get with it. So here's the pitch. A Fan Creation site for Video Game stuff (items, magic systems/rules, New Battle Systems alltogether, Classes, Races, Gods whatever have you )...

D&D 5E (2014) How has 5e solved the Wand of CLW problem?

Why was the topic not closed after this post? This was your answer 3 posts in. This is how 5e handled it. There is nothing more to talk about other than DMs who don't know how to handle their game which is the DM fault, not the game. There is no CLW problem in 5e. /topic

FFG's STAR WARS License Renewed - and Includes Episode 7!

Hopefully this will force them to change their error of the Lightsaber Pike as the shadow guard is no longer canon, and the jedi guardians are.

    D&D 5E (2014) Renaming +1, +2, +3

Ok, so there's one of two things happening here. both terrible. Option 1, You create a weapon via random generation using the naming convention OP talks about, giving +1s a particular material etc, then you basically have to refer to another chart, such as the one you linked me, and I have to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Renaming +1, +2, +3

Naming weapons assumes a non random treasure generation game. Everything must be made for a purpose and while in theory it's great. In play, and if you ever want to just randomly combine stuff with a chart or program this approach completely and utterly breaks down. A +1 being the name of a...

    Projector... ideas? help?

So I was recently searching online for projectors for hosting a Smash Bros Tournament. It turns out that I stumbled upon the world of portable projectors which got me excited. Ever since I have seen the projector rooms at various places online such as...

    D&D 5E (2014) do CRs seem a bit arbitrary?

I think CR is a terrible system. D&D has too many moving parts for any sort of consistency. They should just divide up the enemies into 3 or 4 tiers or something. All the steps taken to determine CR is just more trouble than it's worth IMO. I like how numenera / cypher system enemies are made...

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

Man, the kneejerk reaction on magical items from 4th edition to 5th will echo through out the cosmos. Not even magical nuclear explosions have that much force.

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock as divine offspring?

Pretty good idea actually. There are several Divine Warlocks homebrewed but none approached it like this with the fluff.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

Exactly! Most people I know skip all of that and prefer to get into the action quicker. Paying 2 gold for this and 5 silver for that and blah blah. It's not worth the headache. Bigger things like potions sure, but replacing weapons? Never happens in my experience. Upgrading armor? Will only...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

RIght, but the baseline of the game is simplistic. If you play by the base then gold is worthless because there's nothing to spend it on. When you start to add the modules of upkeep blah blah. Then the game becomes extremely bookkeepy which is fine, but to me it's counter intuitive to that...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

Jesus Christ, THIS. DM arbitration fixes most of the "magic" balancing acts in just about every edition. Is the Teleport spell going to ruin your game? Ban it. No one ever seems to have a good argument against this. The most common argument is "It's in the book I shouldn't have to ban stuff to...
