The idea that enworld is an accurate cross section of people that play D&D is laughable and horribly egotistical, you can safely ignore anyone that says that it does as a troll. Is Enworld an important and great sight that more games should come to? Yes.

Ever so often an encounter will sputter out instead of going out with a bang. Most of the monsters are dead but a few solders are still alive (high AC high HPs and low damage), there is no chance of the party dying but they will burn some more healing surges so you have to run the encounter...

This is exactly why I think this path is just to good. Going to switch my fighter to this build and play test it to see if some of the assumptions we are making are right in my game.

I'll take that as a reason, but I don't think it is a good one. A friend of mine pointed out that this is probably just WotC way of 'fixing' fighters.

But you just described the difference between 3.x and 4e. You are supposed to fight lots of creatures... and maybe that is why I think it is so good. My sword and board fighter has been using the +1 lifedrinker from the DMG adventure for... 5 level or so and it has been such a huge boon to...

My personal sum is that it is clearly better, even if the fighter was in scale mail using a shield and dagger. I see people calming that the THPs are not that big of a deal but I could not disagree more.
