Is The Apple OS More Stable Than MS Windows?

Stuff like GIMP and VMWare is fine if you like working with computers, but it isn't so hot for a young relative or Grandmother. The mac apps are far more user friendly and accessible to the non-gear heads. It isn't strange at all that Sun helps distribute Open Office. The fact is that most...

    Fantasy authors worth the reading.

Glen Cook is almost always good. His Garret Novels are always a fun read, basically they are fantasy Noir stories. Hardboiled detective fiction in a fantasy world. The Black Company books are excellent. True classics of the genre, though some of the later books of the South do drag out a bit...

Ahh, the smell of burnt circuitry

Sounds dead to me. There are two things you might want to try though. 1) Replace the BIOS battery on the MB. Dead bios batteries can produce these symptoms. 2) Try some different ram. Mind you, you could toast what ever memory you try, because of possible damage to the MB. But if you're...

    Warforged and Battlefists?

Well you'd have a battlefist on each hand. It isn't going to let you get more attacks than you could before or anything like that AFAICT. It just improves the damage you dish out with your slam attacks. So there really isn't an advantage to wearing more than one.

Blast from the Past - Quark to get DVD release

No not the bartender from DS9, it was a SF parody/humor show from the late '70s. Most of you aren't old enough to remember it (or even to have ever heard of it), but it was pretty funny (at least to me at that age) and is definitely worth at least a netflicks-ing or rental. It's pretty cheap...

Quick HOWTO questions for Mac Mail (was "is Mac OSX more stable than Windows?)

I know you're asking about Mail for OSX, but have you tried Thunderbird 2 from Mozilla? It is available for OSX as well. Might be a better fit for you perhaps. There are other email clients available for the mac after all. Unfortunately, I'm on Leopard so I can't really help you with Tiger...

    Piratecat's storyhour reborn! (updated July 4, 2006)

Wow! Congrats! So you finally just poured water into Spira to drive the worms out?

The Good, the Bad and the Weird!

I'll give it a shot. The western has been in dire need of some new blood/ideas for quite a while. Hopefully an eastern-western, will be better than most western-eastern films.

Ahh, the smell of burnt circuitry

It is highly unlikely that it's a problem with the power cord, they're pretty simple, generic and very hard to screw up by accident. It's far more likely that the power supply just died for reasons unrelated to the cord and/or the memory being forced in damaged something. If there was something...

Is The Apple OS More Stable Than MS Windows?

If I understand things correctly, it wasn't the emulation that was removed, it was APIs for the older mac software. You can get freeware virtual machines that will run OS 9 and programs, the tricky part is getting a mac rom that you need to make it work (well that and an OS 9 CD).

Ahh, the smell of burnt circuitry

Motherboards will usually have some sort of power lights on them, but if even if the problem isn't the power supply, it never hurts to have a spare power supply you can use in your new machine. Since they are one of the most likely to fail components. It's highly likely that there will be no...

Is The Apple OS More Stable Than MS Windows?

It's worth noting that all of the old games you mention are available for the mac as well, though it might be difficult to find a mac copy of Moo II and the expansion for Diablo I was never released for mac. For Moo II there might be the additional twist that you may have to resort to a mac OS 9...

    Diablo III

Nehalem is what you really want to be waiting for. It and the associated chipsets are going to be introducing a number of features that Intel should have added years ago. The Front Side Bus, is going away to be replaced with a Hypertransport knockoff called Quick Path Interconnect. This gets you...

    The Middle Man

While I find a lot of the Wendy and roommate plots to be by the numbers and tedious, the Middleman stuff is getting increasingly funny. Zombies who crave trout? That's almost up to "Tick" levels of wackiness. If the show manages to last long enough to get a couple of seasons under it's belt it...

[MIC} Adding common effects to magic items

Well you see, it's because the 3E magic items aren't compatible with the 4E rules, so they're getting sold cheap because WotC wants to get rid of them. Seriously though, I think Jhaelen has it correct.

    Elfquest to become movie

Try more like 1985. Nelvana was supposed to do an animated movie back in the mid-eighties before they imploded as the result of some bad movie choices (Rock and Rule was one of them IIRC). So yeah, I'll also believe it when I see it. From what I can tell at any particular moment, pretty much...

    Wall and Blade Barrier spells

It's not a physical object in the sense that it is not made of matter, like stone or ice are. Light isn't a physical object for example, but it does exert pressure and has a physical effect on things. So while a force effect isn't "physical", this doesn't mean it can't have physical effects.

New classics from Sep, Piratecat, (contact), Sagiro?

Glad to help. If you're looking for something entertaining to read you might want to give the Chronicles of Burne in my sig a read. The guy who writes it is a riot.

New classics from Sep, Piratecat, (contact), Sagiro?

Depends on how long you've been away. Sep pumped out three updates back in Feb and the thread has just been bumped recently (Shocking I know). Page 18 IIRC. (contact) updated his "Risen Goddess" SH back in March. http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?t=123&page=18 Sagiro had an update...

    Wall and Blade Barrier spells

At least according to the SRD, the physical wall spells (Iron, Stone, Ice) all require some sort of physical means of support or to be anchored in some way. The non-physical Wall spells (Force, Fire, Blade Barrier) have no such mention. Given the nature of the non-physical walls, I don't see why...
