D&D 5E (2024) If Your Builds Not Online By Level 6 Dont Bother?

I think that a lot of people don't understand that Wizard 20 or Fighter 20 are builds. Definitely. This is not my experience. More accurately it is my experience of D&D campaigns but not systems designed for short campaigns or even one shots where a TPK is a fine ending.

D&D 5E (2024) If Your Builds Not Online By Level 6 Dont Bother?

But it's definitely more than functional 3-6 with Shield at L3 and second attack at L5. It's not a multi class that needs to be carried

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

I'm not sure how true this is. My 5.24 wizard could be played using 5.14 rules and basically no one would notice. Our melee MVP is a 5.14 Paladin/Hexblade in a 5.24 campaign. Our Moon Druid has just got out of the levels where a 5.14 moon druid was overwhelmingly better. Yeah the monk got a...

D&D 5E (2024) What upcoming WotC D&D product are you excited about?

Feels almost like 2011 again. And when it comes to good and innovative mechanics in D&D I'll take just about anything by WotC over anything by TSR after 1980. Possibly after 1975.

D&D 5E (2024) If Your Builds Not Online By Level 6 Dont Bother?

Just adding to this WotC era D&D (all of them) have painfully slow combat and D&D in general has mechanical character development that is on rails with at best a few switches. Apocalypse World by contrast was explicitly designed for campaigns of about a dozen sessions with strong character...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

As others have been talking about books I'll go into other media and try to stick within the past ten years. Video games are huge. Elden Ring has sold over 25 million copies. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild over 30 million copies. Witcher 3 over 50 million. Skyrim over 60 million, and...

    D&D 5E (2024) Its The Same Game Right? 5.0 Options in 5.5

I have literally made and playtested my own systems - don't call me lazy that way. And when I'm making my systems I'm more than happy to do that work. But when I buy a ready made system literally the thing I am paying for is functional rules I don't have to worry about. If I wanted to make the...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

And this is a blatant strawman. I didn't write your argument off with a strawman - I wrote it of AS a strawman. That you are the one making strawman arguments.

Likewise. I think it horrible - and it doesn't even really add stakes to situations.

So do I which is why I am going to be more explicit. When you insert the word "completely" into there you are as far as I can tell making a strawman' argument. And I pointed this out in my reply to you. I just didn't use the explicit word strawman. And even if you aren't making a direct...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

I literally gave a citation - the text of the relevant Plane Shift spells. And plane shifting has emphatically changed. If you want a reference to the Astral Plane in specific then another spell that has changed is Astral Projection. In the 3.5 version (which I don't think was changed from 3.0)...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

The question here is whether the Great Wheel by definition contains all possible Outer Planes. I believe the Outlands still exist and are part of the outer planes, therefore the sixteen planes of the Great Wheel are the sixteen prioritised and well known alignment-planes rather than a total...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

At this point you're running hard into Godel's theorem. It is impossible to be provably complete. And I'm not saying that we can't set boundaries. Is an island "connected to" the sea or "located within" the sea? I'd say the answer to both can be yes. What you have that is demonstrably true is...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

But. When A says light is a particle and B says it is a wave both are right. When either says they are 100% correct they are wrong. Because reality is too big for either of them. Of course you can cherry pick cases where people are wrong - but there are times when they can both be right. And it...

Ahhh, Modernists. Person A looks at location X and says "Its name is Everest.", Person B says "Its name is Chomolungma", and Person C says its name is "Sagarmatha." All three of them are right. An American says "We should drive on the right" and a Brit says "We drive on the left". Both are...

You missed us metamodernists out both in the real world and your example! 4: Reality exists and it is completely possible to be utterly wrong about it. As for being right? Understanding is a map and not the territory and reflects a fraction of what is weighted to whatever the person or group...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

The thing that's irritating me about the more extreme version of the change is that I consider both prime material and fey (and to a lesser extent Shadowfell) goblins to be legit for different types of story.

This - and the old PDK could definitely do with Elements Monk, GOOlock, or Feylock level help.

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

Can't agree thanks to the OTT light armour - and it doesn't feel at all like a driving oath in the way the other oaths do. Spellfire sorcery is honestly fine - and looks like a good functional alternative to the doesn't-work-in-actual-play Divine Soul Sorcerer especially if you think opening up...
