    D&D 3.x [3.5] Noteworthy spell changes

    Off topic, but I'll note it anyway, summon monster I now states that "...nor can it use any teleportation or planar travel abilities." That breaks tactics presented in a lot of modules I've seen out there.

    D&D 3.x [3.0 -> 3.5] Acid Fog to Zone of Truth

    Okay, noted under random action that it was potentially replaced with lesser confusion, although it's not on the Cleric list anymore. Corrected entry for greater scrying. Corrected entry for seeming - it was actually added to the Bard list, not removed. Noted the new duration on sleep. Noted...

    D&D 3.x Problems with 3.5 Power Attack?

    The numbers have been run, there is nothing wrong with the new power attack. Fighters are supposed to be heavy hitters, especially if they're using a two-handed weapon, sacrificing significant AC to do so. And yes, even using an animated shield, the fighter is sacrificing significant AC.

    Yay! An editor. :) I'll fix these when I get home tonight.

    Btw, thanks for the support. :)

    Goodbye Haste! Hello New Mandatory Spell!

    So reapersaurus , I get the impression that you don't think it's proper for a metamagic feat to bring the power of a low-level spell up to par with spells of an equivelent level for the spell slot that the meta magicked spell occupies. Or are you still contending that the quickened scorcing ray...

    D&D 3.x [3.0 -> 3.5] Acid Fog to Zone of Truth

    Took me a couple to figure out what you meant. <g> Yes, it does state that the spell listings blurb. I hadn't been cross-referencing those -- two places is enough work for me right now. ;) But I'll submit the errata in case no one else has. Edited the list to include information up to...

    Goodbye Haste! Hello New Mandatory Spell!

    Another benefit of disintegrate over the quickened scorching ray, is that even if the disintegrate doesn't kill the fighter outright with damage, if he fails the save and the damage roll was on the positive side, it's likely to force a death by massive damage roll. The quickened scorching ray...

    Goodbye Haste! Hello New Mandatory Spell!

    I'm just annoyed that I have to buy yet more dice to deal with sneak attacking with my shiny new wand of empowered scorching ray (11th caster level). Gotta be able to distinguish the dice that get multiplied from the dice that don't, ya know. :D (1.5 * (4d6 + 4d6 + 4d6)) + 6d6 == "Mmmm, mmmm...

    Goodbye Haste! Hello New Mandatory Spell!

    Considering that an equivelently leveled spell (disintegrate) is going to do 74.4% of the fighter's hp with a failed save, if not kill the fighter outright with a good roll on 22d6 damage? Not really.

    Cleric of no deity and the War domain

    It's actually a fairly "common" plot twist for a given deity to answer the prayers of (grant spells to) someone in a guise other than their own. For instance, while gnolls venerate the demon lord Yeenoghu (who is not a deity), any actual "clerics of Yeenoghu" have their spells granted to them...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Quickened Spell-like Ability

    I'll note that the new Empowered Spell-like Ability feat works much the same, limiting the spell-like ability to one-half the creature's caster level -2. And again, you pick a single spell-like ability, and this feat allows the creature to empower it 3 times per day.

    D&D 3.x [3.5] CRs still out of whack?

    Yes. A brute creature is going to deal damage - that's what makes them brutes. You can expect a brute creature like an elemental, a hydra, a dragon, etc., to dish out damage roughly equal to 25% of the party's hit points. In a party of 4, that's a full character's hit points, and if it...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] CRs still out of whack?

    They may be trying to make things fit their CRs better, but they never said that they were going to make all creatures of a given CR equal in difficulty. Elementals are quite simply intended to be tough for their CR, just like the new hydra is supposed to be tough for its CR. That aside, I'm...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Quickened Spell-like Ability

    Significant change from what was published in MM II and Fiend Folio. First, the feat applies to only one spell-like ability, rather than all that a creature may have. That one ability may be quickened three times per day. Second, it can only be applied to spell-like abilities that mimic...

    Druid build help

    Think of the Druid as a melee-tolerant Wizard, and you'll be fine. The key is that he's melee-tolerant, not melee dominant. Knowing when it's best to use his melee abilities versus his direct damage spells is an art that you'll have to master. But when you do, you'll be as much of a...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Ring of Feather Fall (Brain-Bleeder from my Players)

    In 3.0 you fell 150 feet the first round, and 300 feet every round after that. This was only described in the section on Tactical Aerial Movement in the DMG (page 69) under Minimum Forward Speed. In 3.5, this has not changed, but neither has it been clarified any. DMG page 20 is where you...

    How wide is a "line", i.e. Lightning Bolt?

    I'm trying to keep this in the realm of a basic geometry that's available to the masses, namely, Euclidean plane geometry. I highly doubt that the designers of D&D ever ventured outside their knowledge of that geometry in trying to come up with rules for a battlemat. Discussions of abstract...
