    Star Frontiersman #7

it would probably be fine for personal use, although I understand that Kinkos can be kinda wonky about printing anything that has copyrights. They have even been known to refuse to print pdfs that have notices within them that specifically state that copy/printing is allowed for personal use...

    Star Frontiersman #7

Did I mention that all this stuff is free? I guess I did, so that makes this a bump to get this thread back to the front page.

    Star Frontiersman #7

The great thing about this stuff is that is still effectively available. Check this out: http://www.starfrontiersman.com/CoreRules.html And this is with the limited blessing of WotC !

    If X were OGL, I'd write Y

X Star Frontiers Y Lots of new material, starting with a revised and expanded Universe (much bigger, with more blank star systems in-between existing canon material). But, even though it is not technically OGL, a number of folks have already been writing additional material all under a...

Zombie Outbreak - where to hide?

Cheyene Mountain... home of NORAD. It has its own power, water (and water treatment), stockpiled food, etc. And really big doors that no mindless zombie type could open, unless they figure out bunker-buster bombs or nuclear strikes. But that would be a boring story... the survivors inside all...

    Is it still D&D?

I don't even think 3.x was even really D&D, much less the things I hear about 4e. They (WotC/Hasbro) have the legal rights to the name "Dungeons & Dragons", but the game produced (currently & upcoming) is not D&D as I see it. It is a game similar to the old game, and in all fairness, it is...

    Why do you choose D&D?

I think the pool of available players is a primary factor... ...although once a group is formed, popular consensus might allow for a change to another system. I would prefer a rules-lite system myself, but I must admit, due to the limits present in my life, that I will game when and where I...

    POLL: Furry Races

I like some ani-men, but only the ones that are developed fully as alternate races... Gnolls Nezumi Lizard Folk Ibixian Not generic races developed soley to placate lovers of animal/girl hybrids (looking at you Catfolk, of all the various incarnations).

    AD&D 1E AD&D 1e Alternate Classes

There was a good Bandit class (npc I think), and the Witch class was very nice as well. My favorites were the Paladin variants... specifically the Paramander/Paramandyr neutral ones. One was a warrior to defend balance, and the other was more of an neutral terror, fighting to actively restore...

Recommendations needed for a new system for an Old DM

Seems like your first post is being misunderstood, and folks are offering up lots of modern & future stuff. If you would actually like a future alternative, that is fast, easy, and very fun... try Star Frontiers. The materials are now available as free pdfs, so there is no cost as well. Visit...

Recommendations needed for a new system for an Old DM

I will suggest Basic Fantasy which is a wonderful system based upon D20 and the Red/Blue, Basic/Expert sets. http://www.basicfantasy.org/ If you want more substance, then I would go for True20 for its adaptability to many types of genres (and there already exists a pool of material to draw from).

    Is D&D becoming more fantastical?

I think the fantastical parts of the game have been shifted from 'the setting' (npcs, monsters, environments, etc) to the 'character' (half-dragons, templates, special prcs, magical fighter hybrids, etc).... and for myself, it is a paradigm shift that I do not like much. I prefer having...

Why do you think warforged = robots?

I happen to actually like Warforged, but I didn't like them initially. I think part of the Robot analogy comes from much of the source material that describes them 'searching for their place in society', or 'understanding life', in a rather Star Trek Data way. They were also described as being...

    capping D&D at 5th level?

I think using 10 levels is a more reasonable model, with slow advancement... the same thinking, except stretched over the 10 levels: 1-2 most common folk 3-5 professional, experienced 6-7 leaders of a field, noteworthy historical figures 8-9 truly noteworthy unique individuals (Einstein...

    Best adventures from Dungeon Magazine

Trouble at Grog's and the one where the characters were shrank to fight rats and bugs in a garden (cannot remember the name at the moment, and these older issues are boxed currently).

    Opinions sought: Much younger players?

I think this statement shows the most wisdom. I would be happy to be incorrect with a cautious attitude, rather than incorrect while throwing caution to the wind.

    Opinions sought: Much younger players?

I do not think that the environment in Canada is quite as prone to lawsuits as in the US. Like Asmor said, the mere mention of impropriety (even if completely false) can truly ruin lives. I have seen the consequences of false accusation, and even though the charges were proved false and...

OD&D(1974) vs. The Red Book - Differences?

For those of you who are proponents of the 'old school' games, do you think that the rules for Basic Fantasy or Labyrinths Lords are worthy updates or rehashes of the old rules? Those rules have their differences, but both seek to appeal to lovers of the older sets. Would you use either (or...
