New Arcane Classes; Warmage, Beguiler, Dread Necromancer...

New Arcane Classes; Warmage, Beguiler, Dread Necromancer... I have never taken a liking to the standard Sorcerer class, and the newer spontaneous casting classes like warmage, beguiler, and dread necromancer seem like a better way in my opinion. Even the Dragon inspired classes seem like...

    Bizarre/novelty/comedy modules/adventures?

There was a pair of Dragon Magazine 'modules' that were rather corny... Monks in Preppie Shirts, Bad Guy in Black Armor called DV, and lots of other goofiness. I have been trying to remember the names and issue numbers for the last 2 days.

Do You Build As You Go?

I might have a general idea for the path that the character might take (as in a certain PRC or Feat Tree), but I don't do any hard planning more than 1 level out. I prefer the events surrounding the character to be the primary deciding force, not some grand-master-plan that runs independent of...

How would you design a magic system for a Harry Potter style of play?

This is the way I would group things as well. I would make wands a standard focus item, and without which one would have a substantial penalty to DC of casting (but theoretically possible). Some endeavors such as Potions study or (most) Divinations would not need this wand focus; but most...

    Geisha: Defunct Dragon Article Submission

ah yes! the real conundrum. Alas, my wife, who happens to be Asian has not even indulged me with any good roleplay in this area. :( and she would likely frown upon my endeavors to push the topic with others :uhoh:

Drinking holy water and barfing it up on a monster...

Agreed. Basically as soon as it touches anything other than its special container it causes its initial reaction (such as the holy damage to susceptible objects/creatures) then becomes regular liquid thereafter. Not to get into the religious discussions, but this is based mostly upon the...

What alignment are these Harry Potter characters? (Spoilers abound.)

As you note a few times in your post, it is difficult to give an alignment to most of the characters. I don't think you can really drop an alignment on them, much like anyone in the real world as well. Circumstances, loyalties, changes of heart, and other factors keep the characters shifting...

    Indian Based Campaign

it is the web enhancement for Oriental Adventures... look there. Mahasapara (spelling?) for an interesting addition, look in my signature for Geisha class... which I have entered a little extra info for adapting to that setting (last page of that document).

    Strength based monks?

I would love to see a STR based monk (or more properly, a martial artist style) modeled after SUMO style; that is, as if the SUMO fighting style evolved outside of competition circles... something that could be used in an OA setting. Anyone see anything like that?

    LA +1 Minotaurs?

Take the Ibixian (goatfolk race, MM3), remove the racial HD, tweak the abilities such as natural armor, and finally say that they are bull-folk instead of goat folk... presto +1 LA or maybe even +0 depending on how you tweak the stats.

    In praise of Metagaming...

Since I pride myself on having this quality of non-jerkism, thanks for the praise. I get irked every time one plays the a-hole, citing character or other metagame rationales. This needs to be repeated every so often.

Rant: Why must thing always be obvious in D&D?

I tend to agree that if a character is designed as a follower of a particular deity/ethos/affiliation, then that character should be able to locate relevant contacts. This does not mean that there is one of these contacts in every hamlet or on every corner of a given city, but there should be...

Removing yourself from a gaming group

In relatively recent times I participated in a group that I thoroughly enjoyed. There were minor issues, but nothing that really spoiled the overall game. Unfortunately due to new job (with graveyard hours and a change in sleeping patterns), a particularly difficult college course, and other...

    Barded mount need armor proficiency?

A Feat called "Trained for Warfare" (or something similar) would do the trick for me (with regards for animals, magical beasties, etc). For low HD animals (lowly dog), his feats are technically used already for stuff like Alertness and Track, so some other consideration might be applied. One...

    Ignorance on the web

What is there to rationalize... after the 501st lap, a demon with a havoline logo appears to shower riches upon the worshipers.... that or the combination of beer & too much sun makes one hallucinate.

    Ignorance on the web
