Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

I think this is a great idea, as it certainly a nod back to original Star Frontiers, and it helps tie the endeavor close to its roots, beyond even the basic rule framework. I wonder if there are any aspiring cartographers who might like to address this? I am not much of a map-maker myself.

Staples refuses to print my PDFs....

Just go down to the next block and use Office Max (copymax), or Office Depot, or Kinko's. Surely one of those other places will have someone who understands the process. When you find your special contact person, make a note of his/her name so that when the issue comes up again with 'random...

Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

Here is the bulk of my modifications to the Martial PSA (akin to the Military PSA). Most rules here are extrapolations of existing rules and existing optional rules. I also suggest that the optional rules for more lethal combat be used (see increased damage dice for Weapon Skills and modified...

Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

Thanks. The Star Frontiers game is very good, and so far, everything I want to do has been very straightforward. I think the specific SpellSkills and their effects will be challenging to come up with, but I do not foresee any real impasses. Last night I made a few decisions on how Armor...

Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

Yes, I think I will re-interpret the basic SF races (Dralasites, Vrusk, Yazirian, and Human, with the Sathar for npc) based on a fantasy world where the races each developed alongside each other (albeit in different locales or environments). I have a mind to also setup some basic fantasy races...

Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

Another aspect of developing this project is the question of Races to be included in a mod such as this. I had some preconceptions on including certain iconic fantasy races, and then I had a conversation on the subject where absolute uniqueness was urged as the order of the day. So, what say...

Have you decided to change systems?

I have taken my hiatus from d20 altogether, but will likely revisit in the future at some point. I have taken a renewed interest in Star Frontiers (see my signature), and I am even working on a Fantasy Rule Subset to apply to the Star Frontiers game. When the material is developed further I...

Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

I haven't seen that game, but I will try to get a look at a copy. I have been working on a framework of Skills for the modification. It is a bigger list (with several extra Primary Skill Areas to handle the Spells & professions of the genre) than the standard Star Frontiers game, but I feel...

Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

Here is a basic Framework of mods I propose happen to enable a Fantasy Star Frontiers. Feel free to comment or critique, but be constructive. Don't bother to post if all you have is anti-star frontiers comments, or suggestions to use 'd20' or whatnot. Anyhow, it is something to build from...

    What book(s) to buy?

I will say that Lords of Madness is very nice. For a different take on that kind of Undead/Aberration combo is to pick up Heroes of Horror as a very nice supplement to augment your ideas.

Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

Also look in the back of the Alpha Dawn remastered PDF. There is a Mentalist PSA and rules for such there, with 3 main divisions as skills. Personally I would prefer a bit more modular approach to powers/spells/mutation myself, but it is worth reviewing those rules (and the Gamma Dawn...

Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

I don't see balance as too worrisome considering using a Skill system, and that this will be overall kinda low-fantasy in my mind, and that all characters could have some access. For some other reference on an add-on such as this, check out the Gamma Dawn rules that were put out (fanbased)...

Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

Well, my initial thoughts are that Arcane, Divine, or other types of magic are akin to Military, Biosocial, or Tech skill areas, thus a Character could choose Arcane PSA. Each spell/ability could then be learned as desired as a separate skill with the effects scalable with the standard 6 Skill...

    Night Below Preview 2

The second item on the 4th row looks like a dragon, and the one below it looks like the silhouette of a Squid/Kraken like critter.

I am never too impressed with character sculps. I want the monster goodies. The Kuo-toa are cool.

How do you like your Monster Manuals?

I would rather have specific books of x creature, which detail most class/level/prc combinations that are typical to the race. Leave the basic monster manual intact, and leave the niche monster books as optional supplements that could be purchased if the DM was heading that way in his campaign...

Conversion: Fantasy Rules into Star Frontiers

While in a nostalgic mood (initiated in part by recent events), I looked up my Star Frontiers material. After a while I cam across this site: www.starfrontiersman.com and I became even more excited about revisiting the universe of Star Frontiers. The site has most of the SF materials...

Looks like wizards are staffing up

Not really true. Companies of that magnitude seldom can base their staff levels off potential news. They will hire as needed (HR/staffing being separate from most development considerations) to fill any roles they need filled at the time. It is when cutbacks are made that you see folks...

    Building a Table: Gaming Surface?

I think a tile covered table would be very cool, but then again, the spaces between tiles might make for an uneven surface (poor die rolling, hard to scoot stuff across, etc). It would really need completely flat tiles and grouting that comes right up to the surface.

    Sci Fi Race conversions

Look to D20 Modern (Future) for those races. For Star Frontiers goodness look here for the rulesets done right: http://www.starfrontiersman.com All the original stuff (most anyhow, with more to come) re-mastered.
