I am willing to bet that the 4e game was developed hand-in-hand with the groundwork for a WoW style game that will eventually get the D&D label. I would imagine the suits at Hasbro/WotC are drooling over the profits that the WoW folks have been able to produce, and want a piece of it.

generally I would say that this is because many of these stores are run by folks who are gamers first (with all the stereotypes involved with that tag) and business people secondarily (or customer service oriented people). Lets face it, many gamer types are not exactly the most socially adept...

The Pulp Toolkit for Savage Worlds is geared for this genre... still I haven't seen the flick yet; my first chance will be Tues after Memorial Day.

Actually much of my focus is on non-d&d options such as Savage Worlds or Star Frontiers, and when I try to game fantasy again I will likely try Basic Fantasy rules as a lead in for my children to begin play with. After a few more years I might re-evaluate the options again with consideration...

Savage Worlds fits all your requirements, even the Class-less requisite... not even True20 really meets this. Even the settings offered (in addition to traditional tropes) are among the most innovative that I have come across.
