It should be made clear, that if a company failed to deliver on a contract (in this case GenCon with respect to delivering funds to a charity), it should come as no surprise that the suing company (Lucas) decides to withhold other payments.... no brainer to me... and no brainer that GenCon...

There are actual professions in law because actual laws are written even worse than game rules... professionals to interpret, adjudicate, and enforce law is necessary.

Having the www.d20srd.org accessible during a game is awesome, but I have only done it via laptop. I would love to get a tablet for gaming purposes, but I do not think using a pda would be very useful overall compared to full featured alternatives.

I hope you get what you paid for... I would hate to see a slew of vendors losing their $$ if the bankruptcy and legal issues force GenCon to shut down prior to the event. Please don't get me wrong. I really hope (for the sake of the industry in general) that things turn out for the best...

and what company wouldn't state this in the face of losing customers/vendors/etc? Gotta throw out some positive spin. I would expect even more ambitious positive speculations to be churned out in the near future.

In criminal cases you are correct... civil cases (such as being sued) are not so.

I plan to acquire the PHB only to facilitate finding a game when no alternatives are available. That being said, if what I see really knocks my socks off, then I may pick up the occasional other supplement... ... but by no means will I be spending like I did for 3.x. Just not going down that...

For Beguiler, Spellthief, or even Assassin, it simple enough for a DM to include Mage Hand in their respective spell lists as a houserule. The spell certainly seems very aprapo in any of those classes anyhow. Even the Bard could realistically use the spell in their repertoire, and one (as DM)...
