In real life, Dire Wolves, resurrected from the dead

Protections which were developed as the technology matured and use-cases highlighted the need for them. Without the technology being in active use, they might never have been invented.

Which is basically impossible, since the ramifications of a new technology on a civilisation level are emergent. They can't be predicted or simulated with any degree of reliability.

I still remember the most disappointing thing about Stallone's Judge Dredd movie being the fact that Demolition Man, which came out at roughly the same time, clearly demonstrated that he could bring the energy to that role that it needed.

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

Huh? I was saying the plan wouldn't work because of anti-American sentiment.

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

Does it? The original plan was to unite the world against a supposed external threat. Dr Manhattan isn't external, he's a symbol of American imperialism, so having him run out of control isn't going to unite the world.

Yeah, I gave up on it partway through. Too much of characters not thinking through the implications, among other things.

D&D General Read aloud text in modules: What are folks opinions about read aloud content?

Well no, since darkvision works in the complete absence of light, it clearly doesn't work like real night vision. Since it's not dependent upon light, it wouldn't necessarily be impeded by light either.

D&D General Read aloud text in modules: What are folks opinions about read aloud content?

Doesn't it? Nothing in its 5e description says that it shuts off in the presence of light. If someone with darkvision is looking into a room that is 40% in bright light, 50% in dim light and 10% in darkness, they should see 90% of it as being in bright light and 10% of it in monochromatic dim...

In real life, Dire Wolves, resurrected from the dead

Seriously, they referenced A Song of Ice and Fire, but didn't use any of the actual dire wolf names?

And subject to change if the party bring their own light source. There was that earlier example of something hidden moving in the shadows, but that doesn't hold up so well if the party are throwing dancing lights into the room ahead of them - or, of course, for those who have darkvision. Sounds...

Or as separate lines to add at certain passive perception DCs, to reward players of more observant characters. After all, not everyone is going to notice those details in the moments before things kick off in here. Honestly, even having the noise in the shadows be picked up automatically may be...

D&D General Read aloud text in modules: What are folks opinions about read aloud content?

Not too bad. Certainly speaks of a frequently-trafficked location - braziers and candles don't replenish themselves, unless they're magical. Oh dear. Assuming I'm still awake by the time the DM gets to the end of that, I'll already have forgotten the first half - or will instead be fixated on...

I totally misread the syntax of that sentence. I was imagining them in armour shaped like playing cards, Alice in Wonderland style.

Maybe for deluxe editions of the VTT versions of such adventures, they could have sound files of the read-aloud text recorded by a voice actor with a suitably epic voice. Players might even pay attention to the whole thing then.

D&D General Read aloud text in modules: What are folks opinions about read aloud content?

Yeah, the room's occupants being at the end of the description is always jarring - you're already deciding "well, okay, first I'll check for any papers on the desk, then I'll examine the fireplace, then maybe check behind the tapestries" when the DM wraps up with "oh, and there are twelve orcs...

    Trailer Tron Ares trailer

I was fully expecting, when we got the reaction shots to something coming through between some skyscrapers, for it to be a full-on carrier. Having it be a couple of Recognizers was a disappointment. One very noticeable thing is that we're basically only being shown one faction in this trailer...
