Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Star Trek has its weird Progenitors / convergent evolution thing to explain why pretty much everyone in the galaxy looks like humans with wibbly foreheads, so it does tend towards the generic. Would've been nice to see a bit more variation though.

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Or it was never about them lacking understanding of linear time, so much as their understanding of time being so far beyond ours that they had to get an explanation from our perspective in order to calibrate just how far they'd need to dumb down their explanations. In other words, their...

    Amazon takes over Bond franchise

That's kinda the issue, though. How do you do a fresh new take on a fresh new take?

    General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

It's a great aesthetic when it's used right. One of my complaints about TLJ was that they did lean in on it too hard, with the Resistance bombers flying over the dreadnaught and dropping bombs on it, and the Supremacy's heavy cannons firing shots that arced upwards to fall down on the Resistance...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

In the "religious figure" example you cited, one of your questions was "which handled it better?" So yeah, your intention was to go there. Are you sure you're attempting a constructive discussion?

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Exploring where each show went with such ideas could be an interesting conversation, yes. But straying into "which one did it better?", as will almost certainly occur within any such conversation even if you didn't set out to do so (and you have) is only likely to devolve into dick-measuring...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Wow, yeah, she does seem like she's in an entirely different (and better) show than the rest of the cast.

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Could it ever be? However the two shows started out, they each found their own identity and told their own stories through the course of their runs, and whether or not the origins of DS9 are problematic is somewhat irrelevant this many years down the line.

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Also the episode in which Miles wished Keiko could be more like a man. :) I do feel sorry for Keiko - as a side character she only ever really showed up in Miles-centric episodes, and since Miles-centric episodes were almost always under the "O'Brien must suffer" rule, she tended to come off as...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

While I agree that Julian and Miles's relationship is definitely bromance rather than romance, they do make it clear that it's a very deep bromance, especially in the "you like me a bit more" scene when they're invading Sloane's mind.

    Amazon takes over Bond franchise

Dead Reckoning kinda lost me a little, I don't particularly like their take on "evil AI". But I'll wait to see the rest of it in Final Reckoning before fully making up my mind. But yeah, Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation and Fallout are all excellent.

I only learned it today. Still waiting to hear whether they found a large articulated ring-shaped structure in there.

    Simple games for commercial breaks

It's been a long time since I sat through a commercial break. Even back in the day, before I cut the cord and went full streaming, I'd record programmes rather than watching them live so I could skip the ads. Seems like a good time to do some browsing on the ol' smartphone. Catch up on your...

    General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

I played the heck out of the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, but I think I stalled out on the B-Wing expansion because of a couple of missions I really struggled with, so I didn't get attached to it back then. The TIE Defender was another ship that it was really cool to see turn up in Rebels.

    General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

Seeing the prototype in Rebels really sold me on them, and showing the production-line models using the mini-superlaser at the end of Skeleton Crew was a real squee moment.

Ooh, bad example. In the same fight, once Luke makes it onto the sailbarge's deck, Random Mook #20 successfully shoots him in his artificial hand.

    General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

He's a great example of informed ability. He's feared or respected in-universe (Vader has to single him out with a "no disintegrations" reminder, he's the one whose approving nod confirms the acceptance of Leia's fake-bounty-hunter persona in Jabba's court, Han's alarmed when Chewie mentions him...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Such a complicated set of relationships. There's obvious attraction between Julian and Garak, and meanwhile O'Brien is married to Keiko, but Julian and Miles are the true power couple of DS9.

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Heh, I never realised that about Nog's actor. Makes sense in retrospect - you can hide a lot of age cues under all that makeup, and it'd be tough for a kid to sit through its application.
