D&D 5E (2014) We should domesticate Rust Monsters

Yeah, I'm coming around on this - I guess the whole reason they rust things is to eat the rust, so iron ore would basically already be in edible form. Much of it is still solid rock though, which is why they prefer to go for the refined metals that they can easily break down into powdery rust.

D&D 5E (2014) We should domesticate Rust Monsters

Now I'm imagining it as a town of warforged, with the queen implanting eggs into the constructs to slowly feed and mature until they violently emerge as rustbursters.

He's not meant to be the next big hero specifically, he's meant to represent the movie's message of hope - that anyone can answer the call, and that while not everyone can be a Jedi, a Jedi could be anyone. Which, of course, was promptly and thoroughly squashed in the sequel as Rey is rewritten...

Basically that, yes. It just plain boggles my mind that they could set out to make a new trilogy without a cohesive story laid out from the start.

If Disney had written The Rise of Skywalker as an actual movie rather than as an apology for The Last Jedi's perceived flaws, it might have been worth watching.

D&D 5E (2014) We should domesticate Rust Monsters

Given that they're in the same "screw the players" category as the invisible 10-foot cubes of gelatin specifically designed to slide through standard dungeon corridors and the ambush predators evolved to look exactly like treasure chests, that's very much an open question. Rust monsters are far...

D&D 5E (2014) We should domesticate Rust Monsters

Iron ore is a chemical compound of iron that has to be broken down to make iron (just like rust, in fact). That's the nature of ferrous metals. To a rust monster, eating iron ore would be the equivalent of eating dung. Gold, on the other hand, is a non-reactive metal. Even when found in its raw...

D&D 5E (2014) We should domesticate Rust Monsters

Iron ore isn't iron, though. Whether they'd actually seek it out rather than going for something refined is questionable.

What purpose would you put them to beyond a combat role? There are few metals that can't be recycled more profitably by smelting them than by having them consumed by a rust monster. I suppose they could be used as lock-crackers by a burglar, but training them not to eat the cash would be difficult.

Is it? That's not stated in the OP. DS9 is highly rated within a fair portion of Star Trek fandom, but it's still one of the less-known Trek shows in wider SF fandom, let alone general audiences, behind both TNG and Voyager.

I'm starting to think Amazon's reviews system may not be entirely reliable. These were all listed under a rating for an electric razor.

    Superman (1978)

As I recall, in the Smallville series Kal-El's escape pod essentially dragged a whole bunch of Kryptonite along with it, most of which fell on the area around the town in a spectacular meteor shower the same night he crashed there, allowing for it to be the space-magic-of-the-week for much of...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball/Lightning Bolt vs Chromatic Orb?

A small stumbling block with this spell, especially when levelling up in the field, was always its material component. It's like "okay, I can take this spell now, but I won't actually be able to use it until I get back to town and spend 50gp on a diamond. Maybe I'll just get something else for now."
