    I have a lot of respect for Steve Jackson Games, but if you want to see a good example of this, take a look at the GURPS 3e Errata page. Books that saw a lot of printings, like the Basic Set, Space, and Supers have their own, unique errata for each printing. That'd be a bear to keep track of.

Why does it make more sense to find out a sword is a Flaming weapon than to find out that bag holds...

    Instead of a ritual, how about making it work kind of like a skill challenge? More complex items require more successes. Relevant skills would probably include Arcana, Religion, and History. Maybe other stuff like Dungeoneering and Nature, depending on what the item actually is.

    I wouldn't say that. Stuff like that will probably just show up in a section of the next MM or DMG, just like changes to Stealth were put in PHB2.

    I'm not really concerned with the increase, but something like this would be really nice. Even if it wasn't pdfs, but some kind of built-in reader. That would be somewhat less useful, but there's still a lot of non-fluff material in the books that just doesn't appear in the compendium.

    I've never seen it done well. Personally, I'd recommend using the guidelines in the DMG to scale your adventures and encounters down to the number of players you have.
