Some tattoos have meaning, including expectations that they have to be earned, not just taken on because someone "appreciated" them. That's why it can be seen as appropriation. You're clicking the "Like" button - you're not living the culture.

D&D 5E (2024) Man I hate the organization of the 2024 Monster Manual

How to organize best depends on how most people are looking through the Monster Manual. An alphabetic arrangement that includes the monster's stats is best for quick reference at the table while running the game and/or when you know the name of the creature you're looking for. For those...

D&D 5E (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

Kinda harkens back to AD&D days, actually. Save or die/suck spells were encounter enders then too, but higher level enemies had better saves and magic resistance. So while the spells were pretty effective at low levels, as the casters got to higher and higher levels, these spells got harder to...

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

Kind of a bit of everything, really, and a lot depends on the game. Superhero games - yeah, clearly exceptional from day 1. Call of Cthulhu - generally not exceptional but doing exceptional things. D&D - a bit of a mix of starting a little exceptional and becoming more exceptional. Overall...

D&D 5E (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

Nothing wrong with a Con of 14. That's a +2 hp/die and a +2 to Con saves. Pretty robust in any scale that isn't skewed by the stats of player characters.

D&D 5E (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

I hear people make comments about agency too, but I have a hard time characterizing these effects as loss of agency. I certainly don't think being subject to a suggestion, charm, dominate, or fear effect would cause a character to lose any more agency than lying on the ground a 0 hit points...

D&D 5E (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

Well, I guess I was thinking a little more along the lines of the mass suggestion with that one since I was prepped to do it for a campaign I was running (and never was in a situation where I could deploy it successfully). But I'm not certain "Run and get help. Your friends need it." would be...

D&D 5E (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

I think one of the problems is the players also veto uses. Is it reasonable, on the flipside, for a spellcasting creature in its lair that the PCs have invaded looking for loot to suggest "Go home the fastest way you can." Pretty much yes - at the very least, I have a hard time finding a way to...

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

After Take 10 debuted in 3e, one of my players cottoned on to the possibilities of speeding play with it while finding traps. As they explored a trap-riddled gnomish ruin, his rogue, who was well designed for being a trap finder, took 10 on searching for traps as they explored except for...
