    [Spoilers] Tron Legacy Review

I was calling Rinzler Boba Fett every time I made a snarky aside to my friend. And I am surprised they didn't show his face at the end. It'd've been easy as pie to have his helmet cracked by a stray shot and fall off or something. Maybe Bruce Boxleitner's face doesn't wear well under CG...

Is WoW still working checking out?

The factions aren't that terribly unbalanced. As of 8/26/2010, per this handy datamining site, Alliance had about 52% of all max-level toons, and Horde about 47%. Hopefully the guy'll update soon. Maybe in about a month or so after everyone's mains have hit 85, and people who're going to have...

D&D 4E New to 4E looks for tips (Rogue)

Sneak Attack uber alles. Get CA as often as you can any way that you can. Find a good defender and use them mercilessly as the anvil to your poking stick. Because your Sneak Attack is +2-5d8 (you *did* take Backstabber right?) the difference in damage between your at-wills and encounters is...

Is WoW still working checking out?

I tried LotRO, and it seemed to have a nice community, but I couldn't stand looking at my dwarf. I much prefer WoW. This is actually a good time to get into WoW; you can get the original and the two previous expansions for about $20, and then get the new expansion, Cataclysm, which comes out...

    The Warrior's Way?

We went to see it on Friday in a nearly empty theater. It was actually pretty good, though. Lots of wire fu and blood flying around. It certainly didn't take itself too seriously, either, but there were some great moments. Brad

    December: What are you reading?

Just about done with A Voyage Long and Strange, about the discovery of America prior to the Pilgrims; apparently the author hadn't heard of anything between Columbus and the Pilgrims, which I blame on where he grew up and his lack of an education. On the other hand, this book resulted from his...

    The Warrior's Way?

Saw some tv spots for that, and it looks amusing. Anybody know more about it?

    Gunpowder, fantasy and you

Also, note that inexpensive artificial lighting means you can work indoors during the winter, when there's less sunlight. This is more useful in higher latitudes, but it's still useful unless you're on the equator. Continual flame beats candles hands down. Brad

Avenger Question: Censure of Unity and Strength of Many Power

Just remember that you'll need to do a lot of math on the fly to get your bonus damage, since it'll change from round to round. But, yes, that there's a good Action Point round funbag there. Brad

    D&D and the magic economy

The alternative, and admittedly this is harder than it sounds, is to realize that D&D is not an economics simulation and not worry too much about the vast wealth disparities. Otherwise, you'd wind up with the magic item shops being co-located with the banks, and offering financing. Brad

Dwarven Weapon Training and Adventurer's Vault Weapons

If your damage depends on hitting things over the head, you're already probably going to get *a* Superior Weapon, may as well make it an axe or hammer and be more dwarfy. Proficiency on the various superior weapons really isn't that big a deal because you're unlikely to actually switch between...

So, how many are avoiding Essentials?

We're using the new feats, and I have an essentials Cleric in one game. While he's absurdly survivable, he's kinda boring. I miss my Battle Cleric. I would run an Essentials Thief in a heartbeat, though. Brad

    Gunpowder, fantasy and you

Indeed. We had a Planescape game with cartridge-using guns that resembled what you have above in terms of stats, and they were okay, just...not that useful to my kensai compared to his sword, which he got 1.5x Str and Power Attack damage with. Or compared to the fireballs and chain lightnings...

    Gunpowder, fantasy and you

We had a joke last night about the demonic gunpowder used in the weapons bay on an astrochelonian battle station. "Elemental gunpowder, you say?" "Yup." "From the elemental plane of gunpowder?" "Yup." "Wow. That must've been the shortest-lived elemental plane in history." Brad

    Cavalier article up: Mounts galore!

I do find it amusing that one cavalier's silver dragon is exactly as tough as the other cavalier's charger, as long as the cavaliers are the same level. OTOH, the dragon flies. Brad

    Weapons of Legacy

There's one other sin that WoL committed. Notice that the font size is actually larger than any of the other WotC hardcover releases. Seriously, go look. It's like they didn't even have enough to fill up the book and then upped the font to fill the page count. It's a real pity, I was looking...

    November: What are you reading?

Working on the new WoT book now. About 1/3 of the way through, not bad at all. Sanderson's writing seems to be better. Brad

RANT: Architects & Contractors: Stop building dumb bathrooms!

At one of my favorite restaurants, their new bathroom style has the sink next to the door. To the left is the urinal. Past the urinal, that's where the towels are. Awk-ward... Brad

Slicing Wraiths and Ghosts w/ blades?

If by "hitting immaterial things without magic", yes. Most wraiths and ghosts are incorporeal, which means they take half of any damage dealt to them, magical or not. An irritating number of them also weaken creatures they hit, which gets really irritating, as it effectively doubles their...

Couldn't this D&D "Minotaur" mini easily be a Gor Beastman in WFRP?

He should be okay. I doubt you'd get away with him in a game that GW's actually running, but as long as it roughly matches your other similar minis you should be fine. The one other thing I can think of is that he'll always have to use a Great weapon, but that's probably not a big deal. Brad
