    The problem with Distant Advantage

I never had any real issue when playing my melee rogue. I had a fighter who was pretty good about enforcing his marks, so the DM made the monsters who were willing to ignore marks in favor of softer targets think about if they wanted the whack from the fighter. Now, Distant Advantage would...

[4th ed] Clockwork Horrors now DEMONS? And Neogi...

Heh, I don't see why not. They don't have to be slavering death machines. They can be slavering things that MAKE death machines and cackle madly as they turn the battlefield into a Michael Bay movie! CACKLE MADLY! Brad

    Transhuman fantasy?

...I think I saw this in the University of Evansville bookstore back in high school. Wow. I'd forgotten the name, but it was really neat, yet screwy. Brad

Essentials nostalgia - the death of martial healing

"Crap, we're in 2 x 2 cover formation." "Huh?" "This means, among other things, the quarterback is toast." Brad

    D&D 4E 4Ed Dragon Compendium & DDI

Yup, pretty much. One of the reasons I went with an avenger was that I got to roll twice. Of course, I roll double 3s so often it's depressing. Brad

    OotS 735 Is Up!

Doubt that he knows that Roy and Belkar are in state custody yet. He might, but I doubt it. Brad

Guild Wars 2 and the Future of Classes and Roles

One of our DMs played Tabula Rasa, and talks incessantly about how it significantly reduced the need for tanks and healers in groups. I'm not entirely sure how much of that was true and how much of that was hyperbole. Brad

Not Enough Anime in 4e, on to BESM!

We ran an Aberrant game with that, and imported part of it for a Birthright campaign. It was okay. Part of the issue is I didn't really understand what I was doing with character building, and I dislike games like that. The bits pasted on for the Birthright game (for the blood powers) were...

    Psionics: Yea or Nay?

I enjoy my psionics. It shows up in enough fantasy that it doesn't feel especially foreign to me, especially since D&D is such a melting pot anyway. Brad

    No Dice <Nerd Rage>

What he said and what you're saying do not disagree. If the PDFs were profitable enough to keep doing despite piracy, they would. If the cost of keeping them unpirated was low enough to keep them going, they would. But apparently the costs of piracy, added to the cost to PDF stuff, makes it...

Epic Feat: Shared Healing (DP) question

IIRC it's been mentioned in discussion boards by people with WOTC in their user name, but I don't think it's in the actual errata. Honestly, it's a stupid ruling, and one my group ignores. Brad

    Might return after years away

Nice. I may have to look into these. Some of my friends at work have talked about doing Magic some evenings. We all have different levels of cards, so starting fresh would be good. Brad

    Blizzard "Real ID" on Forums

Yeah, the Blizzard forums are a cesspit. I've had some decent discussions there, but by and large they suck. Maybe some sort of rep-based thing would work, like what they're doing with group-kick votes. Like, say, if your forum posts are voted down/reported enough times, you'd eventually lose...

Civ 5, just one more turn...

We'll see. I'm not too enthused about it. This may be my inner grognard talking, but archers shooting two hexes pretty much breaks it for me. If it were on some sort of battlefield, that's fine, but when one hex is several hundred miles? That seems excessive. Brad

    It's hot!

A few years ago I was in San Diego for work, and noticed when I walked under an overpass out of the sun, it was *cold*. So, yeah, they're a lot drier. I'm just happy that our most recent heat wave broke. The good thing about 100 degree days is that it makes 90 degree days seem cool. Brad

    Dreseden Files RPG is Awesome

I found myself flipping through the book just for the side notes. Pity that my FLGS only had the first volume. But my wallet thanked me. Brad

    July Errata is up

I'd retrain Tumble. Or use both in the same encounter. Brad

Tomb of Horrors, Demonomicron, and more @ Premiere FLGS

Lots of insubstantial monsters, especially in the middle. Which is, of course, thematic, but kind of irritating, especially since they tend to come in clumps. That's my only complaint, it's pretty good, and I like how it links back to the original and Return modules. Brad

    D&D 4E 4Ed Dragon Compendium & DDI

Exactly. A lot of the "patches" for classes and races come out in DDI. There's an absolutely beautiful warlock article in there from a few months ago, for example. Brad

Stun: a guide on how to avoid it ?

I generally keep my bag of dice full so when the DM starts pulling out the At-Will stuns, I can threaten to hit him over the head with it. I've already told him if he brings out a dracolich, I'm keying his car. Brad
