    MM3 Preview: MIMIC

Never saw a mimic in D&D, but in Dungeon Siege 2 they were freaking nasty. (shudder) Brad

    Why arn't Controllers Sexy

When our DM first was learning 4e, he loved putting out stacks of minions that volley-fired poison blowdarts. You know, like Act 3 of Diablo 2. Given that we didn't have anyone who could do AoE, this was...painful. Brad

    Alternative system for Shadowrun setting?

I can't imagine doing SR without the dice pool system. It does have a steep learning curve for both players and GMs, but I enjoyed the heck out of it. Admittedly, the last time I played the group ran some aircraft carriers through rules loopholes, but so did the GM. Brad

    May Rules Update

Indeed. Again, I'm surprised that people read it any other way, same as Staff of Ruin. Brad

    Iron man 2 (no spoilers)

I'd heard that they kept mentioning New Mexico, and I rather thought that was setting up the Avengers movie to use the plotline of Ultimates v1. But that was good. I did ask myself I liked the movie a lot. The end fight was over just a touch too quick, I thought, but on the whole it was...

    Transformers mythos questions

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any Cybertronian beast-types. The pre-Earth Dinobots (referencing The War Within), for example, apparently resembled tanks in their vehicle modes. I'm not aware of any other Cybertronian pre-Earth references for any of the Transformers that have beast...

Monks & Weapons & Powers, oh my

Hrm. The discussion about thrown weapons makes me wonder, does a ki focus extend its benefit to thrown shuriken or daggers? The text says only "weapons", not differentiating between melee and ranged, so I would assume it would. Thoughts? Brad

    May Daggermaster Nerf Rumour

Um, no, at no point did I say that. Where the hell did that come from? Brad

    Warden Armor Class

Yup. It's really the killer thing with the warden in our game. Yes, he gets hit more often (AC 32) than my cleric/pit fighter (AC 34), but he does have the health to soak the damage. But being able to roll a save at the beginning of the round has been incredibly helpful. Brad

    George RR Martin still writing?

Ah, so he feels that he's in a corner, though we don't know what's making up the corner. Fair enough. Thank you! Brad

    May Daggermaster Nerf Rumour

You do have to plan for stats, though, for most of the 19-20 crit range feats, unless you use a bow, or are an avenger who's willing to settle for only critting his/her/its Oathed target. But, yes, now you don't have to do a careful balancing act of skills, feats, and class levels in a specific...

    The Avenger "Trap".

I haven't had much of an issue with this. The fighter in our party's pretty good about grabbing stuff, and uses his Rings of Personal Gravity like they're going out of style. (He has two.) Often, in fact, I'll Sequestering Striike my Oathed target off to the side while the remainder of the...

    George RR Martin still writing?

Can someone explain how he wrote himself into a corner with the last one? It's been a while since I read it, and I can't find my copy. Feel free to spoilertext it, of course. Brad (who insists on waiting for the paperback for this series)

    Epic Destiny for Barbarian

The problem with Demigod is, despite your turning into a deity, it's just kind of...generic. It's literally the "well, you don't have anything else cooler to do, so take this" of the epic destinies. Especially since it's reskinned for FR as the Chosen ED. Brad

Monks & Weapons & Powers, oh my

Monk has implement powers, they don't scale with weapons. The weapon is useful for MBAs only, and/or using feats. The extra damage for the monk comes in the form of their Flurry of Blows. And that near-mandatory Iron Armbands of Power. Brad

What are you playing that is NOT D&D?

Darn you, Nifft, those are what I want to play! Brad

How ubiquitous is the Superior Weapon feat?

I'd like a superior dagger, counting as a dagger, that rolled d6s. This is mostly because I really dislike rolling d4s. Brad

Astral Seal = The Most Broken Ability

The DM got a LOT better about building encounters that weren't going to slaughter us. And thinking back, I can't think of any encounters where we were going down that much. Now that my cleric has a lot more in the way of surge delivery, Consecrated Ground wouldn't have been a good use of the...

What character(s) do you want to play?

Let's see, in the quaracter queue, we have: Reed, halfling Stone Fist monk. Pair him with a fighter, provokes OAs like mad and mostly doesn't get hit. Dwarven avenger/fighter Pit Fighter. Oh, the damage add is beautiful... For my Eberron DM's inevitable Dark Sun, I'll roll a human sorcerer...

Astral Seal = The Most Broken Ability

Also, I found that Consecrated Ground is an action hog. Minor to maintain, move action to move it 3 squares. So the monsters can get out of range of it easily enough if they're intelligent. I tried it for a while, but it just took so much effort that the only time it came in handy was when we...
