What is Expected from an Oriental Game Setting?

Are we talking about a modern-day oriental setting or a period one suitable for D&D genre? Trust me, I've also seen some worse. Hollywood is not the only cinema industry that can dish out bad films. But there are few precious gems amid the muck in Asian cinema.

4E GSL - non core references

Because you can do better than WotC (i.e., out-of-the-box thinking), especially when you're aware of their customers' dissatisfaction with certain mechanics. Not all of them, since you are using WotC's stuff to make money. As a publisher, how are you going to make me spend my money on your...

What if WotC provided is NOT whipped? ;) You may like it whipped, but I like mine crunchy. As I said before, it's good to have options. Not everyone here is an Eberron fan. Not everyone is a fan of the 3.5e Complete Warrior Samurai class.

What is Expected from an Oriental Game Setting?

Don't recall that in Kurosawa's samurai films. What kind of foolish movies have you and American mainlanders been watching?

A customer that knows what he wants and doesn't accept only one option for his favorite rulesystem. Using an analogy, I'd rather see many varieties (brands) of peanut butter on the shelves, even though they're based on a basic peanut butter recipe. I don't want to see only one choice.

What is Expected from an Oriental Game Setting?

Yeah, don't assume that I embrace the new setting because WotC published it.

What is Expected from an Oriental Game Setting?

Gygax use European elements to make a Eurocentric setting. So, why not use Asian elements to make Asia-centric setting? I don't care if you abandon mythology, just don't put Euro-Western elves in the pseudo-Asian setting. Introduce never-before-seen creatures to the Western audience.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 - Coming in 2011

It may be stupid but it's legal to make more. (AiWL is PD.)

What is Expected from an Oriental Game Setting?

Thank goodness D&D don't use "priest" as a class name. Weren't some Knight Hospitallers men of the cloth, though not necessarily priests? In the East, those who have taken Buddhist vows include Takeda Shingen (though you can argue) and I believe one of Yoshitsune's comrades was a warrior monk...

What if I don't agree with WotC's version of the Cloak of Protection? --still a fan of OGL.

What is Expected from an Oriental Game Setting?

Really? I hardly used them in my D&D games. It wasn't until later that I realized Ogre Mage and Oni are one and the same in D&D. Didn't felt right.

    Do You Believe in Magic?

So, it's like porno vs. art ... you'll know it when you see it. Kinda odd, that the D&D wizard class -- mind you, I haven't read 4e -- would have a spellbook that contains the "recipe" or "formula" for casting spells. Is it possible to call that magic when it can be ... for lack of a better...

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 - Coming in 2011

*restrains himself from yelling "WELL, DUH!!!" in megamania's face* It's not like the whole Disney-based film franchise began as an indie short film. I don't need to be in Cali or Florida to see that Disney parks are milking it for all it's worth. What's next? Accusing WotC of making money off...

4E GSL - non core references

That's the idea, so says WotC. They will add future references from future books, since they don't need to add OGC as before (which is like practically giving away game mechanics).

What is Expected from an Oriental Game Setting?

Why it has to be about elves, a fantastic creature that comes from Western folkore and myths? Why not a fantastic creature that comes from Eastern folklore and myths? I don't mind dressing up elves in kimonos or o-yoroi but it has to go deeper than than that.

Don't hold your breath. We may see The Flying Dutchman again. :erm: Yet I agree, that story pretty much ended albeit badly.
