Buy High, Sell Low is a Dumb Economic Model

I've never felt that D&D had a functioning economy, period. It just really starts to break down, especially when you consider that for the last two editions, the only thing that gold is really good for is buying magical items.

Do you keep track of normal ammunition?

As the DM I ignore anything that isn't plot relative. If the players aren't lost in the wilderness or aboard a stalled ship, then food and other mundane resources just aren't worth tracking.

    D&D 4E 4e's Equivalent to Pathfinder

Eh? I've always felt ENWorld has been biased against 4e. I've avoided the General forum for that very reason.

D&D 3.x Perspective on the Edition Wars - salute to the 3e Camp

As the sun sets on 4e and moves towards 5e, I see a lot of the old Edition War canards revised, but with the scenarios flipped. For instance, you saw a lot of "I like 4e because you couldn't do X in 3e". The response would be "Well of course you could, you just have to do a lot of Y and jiggle...

1st level PC as novice or hero - do it behind the curtain!

But apparently some people have a problem with wizards having at-will magic. It's not my issue, so I can only give the explanation they do.

D&D 5E (2014) Who really IS the target audience of D&D Next?

Click on the 5e Info link at the top of the page - they've said a whole hell of a lot more than that. My objections are based on the actual rules that have been discussed. Ability scores as saves. Instead of spell DCs or flat attacks with spells, casters roll a check to set the DC for the...

1st level PC as novice or hero - do it behind the curtain!

Part of the "1st level are heroes" is for instance at-wills/encounters/dailies. The idea that an apprentice wizard can cast fireballs (Scorching bursts) all day long isn't "Novice"-y. Or rather, it doesn't compare to earlier editions where they got at most 3 spells. I'm playing devil's advocate...

What is meant by Exploration play?

I love that stuff. But I believe what you describe, to use a gamey term, is "hexcrawling".

What is meant by Exploration play?

This is my concern as well.

D&D 5E (2014) Who really IS the target audience of D&D Next?

The more I read about 5e the more I am planning to stick with 4e.

What is meant by Exploration play?

When they say "exploring", what sort of play are they describing? What do exploration skills mean, etc?

    D&D 4E Your 4e Bucket List

I'm sorry - every 5. You know, +1 at level 1, +2 at 6... I have not Ikalos but I'm generally wary of fan created classes. ;)

101 Ways to tell your Dungeon Master is not going to allow your character...

    166) You run out of ink printing your backstory. 167) You show him the art you based the character on and he says: "Wait, that's not your mount?" or "Wait, is that from a hentai?" or "Wait, is that Drizzt?" 168) You reference one of the setting's NPCs, with the phrase "son of..." 169)...

Skeletons and the Need for Bludgeoning Weapons

Reminds me that the Pike Axe was created to cleave through helmets.

    D&D 4E Your 4e Bucket List

The Unseelie Agent theme (Heroes of the Feywild) actually gives you a free magical weapon that gains a bonus every six levels (making it a basic magical weapon that grows with you). So it's not too hard to believe.

    D&D 4E Your 4e Bucket List

I know you poo poo essentials, but the Hunter Ranger is a martial controller. However, the lack of the Soul Knife made me sad. If I wanted to fake a necromancer, I'd just take a Shaman, treat the spirit as a ghost, refluff some powers, and call it a day.

Skeletons and the Need for Bludgeoning Weapons

    1) Then it's a good thing I used the word most, and not "almost everyone, with a few singular exceptions". :) I consider most to encompass 60-70% - and I would not characterize 30-40% as a few singular exceptions. Had I meant "almost everyone", I would have said something like "nearly everyone"...

Skeletons and the Need for Bludgeoning Weapons

There's certain feel/reactions that these rules want to invoke, but that I think they inevitably don't because it just doesn't jive with typical play behavior. I.e. if a monster is resistant to slashing and piercing, you want the PCs to scream "Crap", scramble for improvised weapons...

    D&D 4E Your 4e Bucket List

    1) An Open Grave/Demonomicon book dedicated to Fey. We're not getting one (I had a friend ask at D&DXP) but damn if I don't believe we should get one. I've been demanding this from the beginning of 4e. 2) A Divine Striker that focuses on ranged magic. A Divine Warlock or an Avenger with...

Gamers Who No Longer Have Time to Game

I have not, no. Partially because it only uses Dungeon Tiles to make maps, and partly because I just dont' have the time/energy/gumption to invest in an online game. Life is a bit chaotic right now, and when I secure a job I'm moving to a much more gamer rich environment.
