Gamers Who No Longer Have Time to Game

I've gamed for 12 years online; it's where I started DMing. With Chat interfaces, it's not just a necessity of rules light, but a lack of a grid, that is important. 4e is very grid-intensive, which is very difficult to pull off in a purely text medium like a chatroom. Then it becomes two blind...

D&D 4E The New Monster Math, Explained and Expanded

But Artillery are supposed to have high damage. Look at the PDF Tequila Sunrise put up. Brute attacks: AW: High damage Recharge: Very High Artillery Single Target attacks: AW: High Recharge: Very High Controller Attacks AW: Medium Recharge: High Artillery AREA attacks: AW: Medium Recharge...

D&D 4E The New Monster Math, Explained and Expanded

When I think about striker the traits that come to mind are relatively glass cannon - lots of damage, not too strong defensively. This should describe artillery and lurkers. I don't think a one-to-one translation of PC to NPC roles needs to be done. I'm OK with monster roles not being a...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog - A Close Call with Negative Hit Points

Call me lazy, but I don't want to track con damage. I don't like having more descending pools of HP.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog - A Close Call with Negative Hit Points

In some editions you died at 0 HP. I'd say that's a big penalty.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog - A Close Call with Negative Hit Points

I for one just hate way that it monkeys with all of the math on your character sheet. Ability damage has very far reaching implications, and adjusting all of that is a pain. It's definitely against the 'simple and quick' they're shooting for.

How many House rules are too many?

How many house rules are enough for your group, how many are too many? I am finding that the more I hang around ENWorld, the more cool Houserule ideas I have or want to steal, the more things I want to tear out or change when it comes to a system. Many of those rules are PC creation or...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog - A Close Call with Negative Hit Points

Here's suggestion: You get one round while below 0 HP. No death saves, no negative hit points. There's only two ways to keep you from dying. 1) Magical healing. This is the only way you can get up off the floor. 2) An ally needs to administer a heal check to stabilize you. When you're...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog - A Close Call with Negative Hit Points

Tieing any sort of death save mechanical limit to resting would result in more incentive for the 15 minute work day. "Sorry man, I failed a death save, let's go take a nap." And while A DM can put more pressure on a group to move forward, the system is giving them incentive to not do so. I'd...

    Dungeon Survival Handbook

This book was talked about this at the D&DXP seminar. I for one welcome our new kobold overlords.

D&D 5E (2014) 5E, The Edition Wars, and Shooting Ourselves in the Foot.

IMO the only way to change the tenor in here is to get the Mods to crack down. What I mean by "It doesn't matter" is as far as the mechanics of the next edition are concerned. If what is said here has no impact on WotC's decisions, then all it accomplishes is at best wasting time and engaging in...

D&D 5E (2014) 5E, The Edition Wars, and Shooting Ourselves in the Foot.

Yeah, I don't think any sort of un-enforcible pledge is going to fix anything. And part of the edition war that is ignored is, well, defense. There's a thread on the first page of this forum where the tenor is basically, if you don't like level drain you're a PC-coddling nancy that doesn't like...

D&D 4E The New Monster Math, Explained and Expanded

Various MMs have had "Leader" tacked onto any monster that had an effect that assisted other monsters. But you've created the Leader role, which lacks any explanation. Nor what the "Lead" power does.

D&D 4E Finally, a playtest reporting there are good things from 4e in Next!!

If I want to play a game that glorifies Bad Things Happen to PCs, I'll play Warhammer Fantasy.

    Research about table top RPG

You do know that soliciting a dedicated RPG forum online is likely going to skew your results, right? ENWorlders (and most people who frequent online forums about RPGs) are more likely a more hardcore gamers than your average gamer. So you may have some external validity problems. That's...

How many hours a day do you spend on RPGs?

Does thinking about gaming count? Cuz I think about gaming way more than I think about sex. ... Wow I just made myself feel bad there. I'm unemployed with no group or girl so what else am I going to do? :p I clicked 4-6.

    Adventures You'd Like Produced

Well, I can certainly see a lot of support among those who feel Epic gets little support. I don't have a horse in that race, but I think an epic-level Sandbox is sort of silly. But I still wouldn't mind pitching some ideas to you if high level is where you want to go. One thing I see lacking...

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I game

Know a guy who plays a psionic hawk. Kinda reminds me of the Polish army employing an actual honest to god bear to assist in hauling munitions. As far as the Greyhawk novels and talking animal characters are concerned, I'm writing an Arabian S&S novel with a talking cat familiar. The wizard...
