D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

What about the second part? Oh, I think I see what might be going on here. You considered Chaltab's question to be rhetorical and only a fool would engage with it because it's a trap. I was honestly trying to engage with that question and you took the opportunity to pounce and imply that I am...

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

Cause when you tell your players you're excited to run an adventure about knights in shining armor with dragons and wizards and elves---and then Ben shows up with a ninja. Thanks Ben. I guess you're just payin' me back for showing up with a knight in shining armor to your Legend of the Five...

D&D General Redesigning DnD 5e with no Bonus Actions

No! No! No! Noooooooooope! Nada! Not ever going back to that ever again. Full actions, standard actions, move actions, swift actions, free actions, and, my favorite, not an actions. Barf!

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Hate Monks (Less Than I Currently Do)

Just about all of the monks I've ever rolled up were some version or another of Friar Tuck.

D&D General The New York Times on D&D

I think we are being willfully blind if we don't recognize that using the term species to describe people will not rise up and haunt us someday.

D&D General The New York Times on D&D

Yes, this debate is not about orcs. It's about systemic racism and removing all instances of systemic racism from all aspects of society. In the process as words and ideas are vilified people feel like they're being a vilified as well, either outright or implicitly, and they of course get...

D&D General The New York Times on D&D

Species is a special or specific kind whereas genera is a general or generic kind. Kind is too generic for me. It trips off the tongue and seems to be begging to be paired up with other words like "of" and "creature" or "species" or "race".

D&D General The New York Times on D&D

Gosh, I would have preferred bloodline or even creature type to species.

D&D General The New York Times on D&D

It just makes me think of Star Trek and Star Wars more than it makes me think of Dungeons and Dragons. It breaks immersion for me.

I prefer all of those to species.

I think a lot of people may have bought it because it is the 50th anniversary edition.

D&D 5E (2024) Rewarding PCs with Unbalancing Power

I'm for the Griffin! Train it on the job, and quickly, before you loose your chance to feel real power beneath your command.

D&D General Why do good monsters exist, from a game design standpoint?

It is fun to build and "stat up" things. This game is a hobby. Even if we aren't expected to fight them, it is still fun be able to say a solar would kick a storm giant's butt. Also, sometimes you need to sneak past them.

I think we aren't taking advantage of tumbling enough.

    D&D 5E (2014) Skill Ranking

I choose Innuendo. I mean, I would choose Innuendo but it's not on the list. That's because this list has been culled a couple of times already. We've had this discussion a few times over the decades. In the end we'll have a list of 6 or 7 skills and still be confused.

Worlds of Design: How Subtle is Your Sorcery?

Magic in my personal fantasy world is obvious. Verbal components can be heard from at least 30 ft. away. Similarly, material components can be seen from 30 ft; however somatic components and foci can be seen with a simple line of sight, mindful of darkness and distance.

Worlds of Design: How Subtle is Your Sorcery?

I was mighty displeased when my Character was asked to make a Perception check, then a Wisdom save, and then got held by hold person. Just sayin'.

D&D General 5e Wands with finite charges?

This i think is an important observation. Addressing the Original Post, it depends on what you want your game to feel like. It could make short rest healing unnecessary if you don't also take further steps as suggested in other posts up thread. On the other hand, Wands Inc. is a completely...

D&D 5E (2024) Seeking input re: Dwarves Riding Bears.

They're large bears. Look their skulls. They're four times bigger than the dwarves. If those bears were to stand on their hind legs they'd be over eight feet tall. The dwarves look bigger and more intimidating because they're mounted on curse-word bears!
