RPG Evolution: What Do You Mean, "Run"?

This quote should be bronzed and placed upon the altar of role playing games. We are not our characters.

    D&D General Unseen servant drums

I can't think of any reason why a magical creature would keep a perfect beat simply by virtue of it being a magical creature. I don't understand why it would sound "mechanical" either. Why would a magical creature sound mechanical?

    D&D General Unseen servant drums

For funsies, I would ask you for a Performance check with disadvantage because your drums can't keep a beat.

...but, they're not going to be skilled at drumming. House beats but not hip hop beats.

RPG Evolution: What Do You Mean, "Run"?

Number one is weird, because every turn spent retreating is a turn not spent failing to defeat the opposition. To another point, if the path from death back to life is an easy road (for Players), then it probably makes more sense to just die and return later after a short dirt nap.

RPG Evolution: What Do You Mean, "Run"?

I just tell them after a couple of rounds that they should run away. Similar to how I just tell them their opponents armor class after a few rounds. D&D 5E (2024) Who has sign language?

It is? Well, I'm confused now. Why would it be a standard language when a Player Character can read, write, and sign any language? Am I completely off base here?

    D&D 5E (2024) Who has sign language?

I don't think it's taken as a language any more than writing, reading, or speaking a language is. However, I think it would be cool if Sign were a standard Language that could be chosen.

    D&D 5E (2024) Who has sign language?

In the character creation part of the Player's Handbook it specifically indicates that your character can speak, read, write, and sign a language. Does the Monster Manual indicate this in the stat' blocks for Non-Player Characters? Monsters?
