Having to learn the rules for AL and then having to buy "points" on top of that doesn't sound very encouraging to me.

If WotC wanted to make things easier for the casual DM, they would release shorter campaigns... like Lost Mine of Phandelver. I try to DM for my family, but reading these long campaign books is a chore and very time consuming. Improvising in one of these campaigns is difficult unless you know...

I am an "old school" dad who misses a lot about old school D&D... but this book does not appeal to me. Things I miss... I actually liked when classes were not balanced. I liked how magic users had to struggle at low levels to become the most powerful class in the game, for example. I liked...

Because I love kickstarters... and, this would probably generate a lot of interest. I am sure they would raise a lot of money, which would help support the production of it. UPDATE: also, because I feel the need to throw money at them now....

Admittedly, I am not a big fan of LoTR. But, the title of that article should have been "Gandolf was at least a 5th level magic user." You can't say that he was 5th level because he never cast a spell that was higher than a 3rd level. That only proves that he was at least 5th level. I cannot...

I don't care for level being a factor in skill calculations. I would prefer skill level having a larger impact on the skill use. Seems a bit odd that a level 4 character who is untrained in a skill would have the same bonus as a level 1 who is a master...
