    PC Creation: Pointbuy or Roll?

I'm still trying to figure that one out. Seriously.

    PC Creation: Pointbuy or Roll?

Point buy. I roll like crap, and I run a lot of GURPS, so it seems natural. I could see some sort of random method that distributes scores, say, something that tells you how to rank your scores, like the dice telling you to put a 14 in your sorcerer's Strength, but I want the balance. I'd be...

Which creature you would like to see undergo a monster makeover? RESULTS ARE UP

I went for the wyvern, if only because it's nastier than its CR suggests. Personally, I'd like it if he went for a rust monster that didn't play like it came from Diablo. I understand its need for rejigging, but ...

    My Beef with Social Skills

Funny, that's what I like about social skills. Give a bonus or penalty for roleplaying, but otherwise, your character knows more than you do. My wizard knows more than I do about casting a spell, but I don't have to tell how I'm casting the frigging spell. To pick a better real world example...

    My Beef with Social Skills

I disagree in general, but I really disagree with this point. Bluff determining feinting is a terrible mechanic. I understand this is a game, not a simulation of reality, but this one fails the laugh test. There is no reason whatsoever why a character's skill in BSing would be the same as his...

Where was the term THACO first used?

There was a discussion of THAC0 in the Dungeoneer's Survival Guide as being some new innovation. My guess is that some folks were including it in their products, some were not, and someone finally got around to discussing it in the DSG.

    ENnies winners?

A limited number of new rules sets this year, I guess. We've seen big updates to GURPS, Storyteller, Hero and Ars Magica in the last few years, and that's just off the top of my head. Many of the new rules sets are d20 tinkerings, and I suspect the idea that "You've seen one d20 product, you've...

4th ed -- yeah, but are you actually ready to leave behind the 3rd?

I alright got 4th edition. Totally rocks. Quad ST solves tons of problems, the new rapid fire rules save game time. I just wish Evil Stevie would make more supplements. Oh, wait, 4e D&D? Well, I'd have to see.

Healer (from MHB): Is this a good class?

Well, I made one for a GM to use as an NPC, to keep him from playing NPCs who steal the PC's thunder. Against undead, she can cast mass cure light wounds to give them hell, and she has the Augment Healing feat, which is practically made for this class, making her very good at her one skill. If...

    Non-Core Class Survivor: Round 13

Psychic Warrior. Psionics psuck, and really should be specific to the modern game, and the psychic warrior exists to satisfy a rules spot. I read about psion-like folks in sci-fi stories, but not psychic warriors.

When was the Golden Age of Dragon magazine?

Dragon #137. There's something amusing about publishing a munchkin's fantasy. As an era, the early 1980s. And, since I started gaming in 1986, I don't have a nostalgia trip here; it was at its best before I started reading.

Hasn't D&D become even more fun lately?

As good as ever. The rules are better, though the focus of the game has become much more combat-oriented. I'd want the 3e rules with the 2e descriiptions.

Players: Do your characters need to be kewl?

Everyman. It's the Method Actor in me, I think: I want to get a handle on the character's mind, so I don't want that fact that the character is the last drow cleric of Obad-Hai from Podunkoria tends to dominate the character's role, not his personality.

Why the lack of 3rd party adventures

Stock responses to the WLD, since I knew someone would bring it up: * How many copies did it actually sell? My FLGS (across the street from the Dreamhaven Books that Ken Hite mentioned, which is doing so well that it has pared itself down from three to one location in the last few years) has...

Why the lack of 3rd party adventures

Well, the Dungeon explanation does account for some of it, though Dungeon only publishes more traditional fantasy adventures. It is not the place for, say, Scarred Lands adventures, or adventures in a steampunk world. The real problem is that adventures are sales that only appeal to one small...

Does Adulthood Change the RPG Experience Much?

Good Grimace, yes. When I was in high school, my group would get off school on Friday, migrate to my basement, watch a movie (usually adult), then start gaming (first game was always D&D). We would game until 2 am, watch another movie, then crash in the spare bedroom. At about noon, everyone...

What is the most common alignment for your characters?

Chaotic Good, probably because that fits my personal attitude towards life. Looking through my book of played characters in 3e, the two whom I have played the most are Lawful Good and Chaotic Neutral. The others are all over the Good axis, with some Chaotic Neutral thrown in.

    I have the PHII...

So, any thoughts on the quick PC/NPC creation appendix? How does it work? Anything special about it?

Which core class sucks the most?

Sorcerer. I agree with the prior poster -- the warlock is what the sorcerer should have been. My second choice is the bard -- it has lost its bite and its flavor, as opposed to 2e, though I do like bardic music in principle. Whoever put cure light wounds on its spell list needs to answer for...

Spell Compendium: Is it worth the $$

I just picked it up today. The owner of my FLGS said to me that it was selling well, and mostly for my reason: right now, I need to bring both Complete Arcane and Libris Mortis to games wherein I play my necromancer. Now I need only bring one book. (Well, Tome and Blood too, but that isn't such...
