Review of Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG by Goodman Games

I've played. It has an interesting magic system, but it needs to ditch the funny dice. It stripped 3e/4e to the roots (good) then added lots of arbitrary rules (bad).

So the playtest is out: What do you think? The EN World poll!

In general, I like what I've read, though my group couldn't get together to playtest it. It moves away from the crunchy-bit-for-everything that has characterized recent editions. I play GURPS for that. It mostly gets rid of the belief-straining (even in a world of dragons and magic and...

D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

Is Mearls a designer on this project, or more of an administrative team lead, more like Dancey's old role?

D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

Mearls is "surprised, and frankly saddened." This does not sound like the team planned for this, and Mearls quickly changes the subject to the planned part, the Public Playtest. I suppose this could be worse: Mearls might not have had another topic, whatever he was doing left with Cook, which...

    What's Up With D&D? for Monday, 2 April 2012

So, is this reincarnation of Flame as lame as the one in issue #100? Please, let him stay dead after that one.

Steve Jackson Games 2012 Stakeholder Report

I actually don't think you disagree with me — I clearly agree GURPS is a distant second — but you implied that there was some other product from SJG other than Munchkin ahead of GURPS. You gave no indication what that product is. The other two products in the report aren't even out yet, and...

Steve Jackson Games 2012 Stakeholder Report

Ogre is not higher in priority than GURPS; it is listed due to its failure to come out. Same worh Ultracorps. Check out forum activity and e23 sales for a comparison between the non-Munchkin products; they weigh heavily on the GURPS side. I can see your other points, but on this one, you seem...

Steve Jackson Games 2012 Stakeholder Report

Basic info every SJG Forums' GURPS-head knows: * There is a GURPS PDF almost every week, albeit often a 3e reprint. There has been a load of Conan releases lately due to the licensing issues letting them be released. * GURPS Dungeon Fantasy is a wildly successful PDF line that deals with a...

    Broken NDAs or Elaborate Trolls?

On the contrary, confirmations added to the fun. They helped the more skilled combatant, they kept crits from happening way too often (seriously, 5% means they happen every few times around the table), and kept the fight in the characters' favor. Without confirmations, I don't want crits at...

    More snippets of 5E information

Skills al la Tweet Check out this Google+ thread. Apparently, Over the Edge is akin to Risus's skill system, or the wildcard skill option in GURPS Dungeon Fantasy.

No Macs? Holy crap did WotC do the math wrong!

IME, not many. I've worked ISP tech support and been a personal computer consultant, so I've actually handled folks who have multiple setups, and they are decidedly in the minority. Most of the Mac users to whom I spoke (I was the Mac guy) were typically artist types -- we had others, but they...

When did you give up on Greyhawk?

I hadn't played Greyhawk at that point, but I gave up on FR in 1990, and started playing Greyhawk three years later. I'd like back some of the money I wasted on FR ...

D&D 4E Should hit points continue to be generated randomly in 4e?

Fixed, of course, which should be clear if there is a desire to make high-level characters easier to create. I'm not a fan of random attributes, but I can see their place. Random hit points, OTOH, makes the game unnecessarily more complicated.

    D&D 4E Multi-classing in 4e - hints from ToB?

There's precedent for this in Star Wars Saga. Your skills are always 1/2 Level + Attribute + 5 (Trained) + 5 (Skill Focus). Jedi, to use the Force, have the Use the Force skill. Even if you take two levels in a non-Jedi class, those two levels up the skill level, though you must be a Jedi to Use...

    Subscribing to D&D Insider

A guarded "no." As others have noted, I get far more bang for my buck from Pyramid. Now, throwing the resources behind Dragon and Dungeon magazines definitely adds oomph to DDI, but I don't buy those anyways, and generally only read the Class Acts and cartoons in back and Greyhawk-related...
