I'd like to be excited, but...

Then why have a new edition? The issue to me isn't a new edition. The issue is a new edition so quickly. Fourth Edition will come out five years after 3.5e which came out three years after 3e. By contrast, 3e came out 11 years after 2e which came out 12 years after the original Advanced game...

D&D 4E What Changes Do You Hope They Make To The 4E Rules?

I'd use the basic mechanical structure of Star Wars Saga, though I'd have everything scale at Level/2 + 5 for class skill + 5 for Skill Focus, including combat skills and saves. Use the Unearthed Arcana weapon groups (or something like them) for individual weapon skills, and give most classes a...

    System recommendations for modern weirdness?

I have no experience with GUMSHOE, though CoC is still a decent game, but Conspiracy X is a great genre. Older versions have the goofy system that Eden was promoting, go the the newest one or the GURPS version.

Horrid. I try for rich, detailed worlds and fail miserably.

Would it be cannibalism to eat a polymorphed chicken?

Something odd just struck me: what about the same situation in reverse? What if someone polymorphs a chicken into a human, kills him and eats him? Would THIS be cannibalism?

Would it be cannibalism to eat a polymorphed chicken?

This puts modern reproductive controversies in a whole new perspective.

Would it be cannibalism to eat a polymorphed chicken?

If there is Cajun seasoning involved, it is cannibalism, unless it's blackened, then it isn't. Lemon chicken is cannibalism, but sesame chicken is not. Chicken McNuggets are too impure to be cannibalism -- in fact, we're not even sure they come from the chicken, so it may yet survive. Wings are...

Would it be cannibalism to eat a polymorphed chicken?

Depends on how tasty it is.

    Harry Potter RPG?

She manages to give all the relevant scenes through flashbacks and the Pensieve. Unlike Lucas, who didn't even have Darth Vader as Luke's father until the second draft of "The Empire Strikes Back," the backstory was always tied closely to the storyline.

    Harry Potter RPG?

GURPS Harry Potter There is a GURPS Harry Potter available. There is a considerable amount of detail. However, since its publication, there have been three books, four movies and one new edition of GURPS, so I'm hoping for an update.

    Vancian Magic, I love it.

Vancian magic has always been lame. Going over attitudes from Wizards, I suspect it's toast for 4e anyhow. The idea of "do something cool each round" is totally at odds with Vancian magic. If Star Wars Saga is to be any guide, there will be some sort of activation roll, at least against foes.

    Need Latin help again

Wrong. Never, ever use "J." (The word "ius" is pronounced "Yoos," never "juice.") You may use "V" in the lowercase for the semivowel "W," but never use "J." No less than Allen and Greenough's New Latin Grammar (the standard) follows this rule -- always uses "I," uses both "U" and "V." Same story...

    Need Latin help again

He's using it as a gerund, which is active. You can't use the present participle like this in Latin ever -- you just wrote "Law in the thing spying right now," which makes no sense. Personally, I'd use the verbal noun, since this is an overall activity of espionage, as opposed to actually...

    Thinking about languages

D&D is very lenient with languages, even for such a blatant gamist game. I came up with a more realistic system, though I've never tried it, basing it on GURPS 4e, where languages are advantages. In it, Speak Language and Read Language are two separate skills. To speak a language fluently, you...

Star Wars Saga, the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Having gotten a good look at it in the FLGS, some thoughts, on the thought that this is a 4e preview: * For all the griping about allocating skill points for high level characters, the game still keeps the other gripe about high level characters: rolled hit points. A sacred cow that is stupid...

    Gurps? Where do I start?

I had a similar moment of truth. Throughout the Nineties, I used AD&D 2e for fantasy, GURPS for everything else. (Especially Space. I first bought GURPS in 1990 in large part because GURPS Space was so damn cool.) My AD&D 2e patches more and more resembled GURPS ... so I just threw in the towel...

    Gurps? Where do I start?

Off the top of my head, 4e has a better attribute pricing scheme. In 3e, folks would buy starting attributes at 13 minimum because that's where the point break was.

    Gurps? Where do I start?

Not horribly. You can house-rule some of the major changes. You could use the new version of GURPS Lite to override stuff in the 3e Basic Set. You might also want to check out the SJG fora: http://forums.sjgames.com/.

    D&D 4E When will 4e be anounced?

Number taken straight out of my mouth. The new version of Star Wars D20 is a trial run of D&D 4e.
