    Lord of the Rings RPG

Last time I looked, MERP products were going for insane prices on e-bay.

    New DM Problem: Describing Attacks.

Same here. Not only that, but it slows down combat encounters, which already takes a long time to play out. Or is there? What if you use the combat descriptions only for confirmed criticals?

    Is It My Sound Card?

I, too, had an issue with NWN and my sound card, before I got a SoundBlaster. It was so bad, it caused numerous lock-up's in the game. What I had to do was disable hardware and 3D sound support in the game, using the NWN control panel you can run, before actually getting into the game, and then...

    Disprove a god's existence...

[Den empties his submachinegun, nearly point-blank, into the Big Bad Evil Guy.] BBEG (giggling): Oh, you'll have to do better than that! [The bullet wounds miraculously disappear.] Den (as narrator): I could see why they made this guy their leader.

Are the monsters from the SRD available with the new stat block format?

I really like the new stat block format, i.e. the one used in Monster Manual IV, as well as in newer adventure modules such as The Red Hand of Doom. The format is an improvement over the original one, used in the first Monster Manual. Does anyone, anywhere, have the monsters from the SRD...

    Tanith Lee?

Tanith Lee's "Flat Earth" and "Paradys/Venus" series are very much adult. If they were movies, they'd be rated NC-17. These works contain dark, decadent, and even depraved settings/characters. Also, they are highly erotic. I'm not surprised a White Wolf roleplaying game was inspired by these...

    D&D 4E Ryan Dancey on 4E

But even if D&D 4.0 sells like hotcakes and makes lots of money for Hasbro/WotC (and how can it not, with players as well as DM's being hard-pressed to buy 4.0 materials, and with players typically outnumbering DM's by 4-1), doesn't mean it will be what the majority of D&D players wants. It...

    PC Title Suggestions

I, too, recommend Gothic 2. It's one of the best single-player computer RPG's I've ever played. (And I've played many, many computer RPG's in the past 10 years or so.) What makes Gothic 2 so outstanding is it's rich, intriguing NPC's environment; and also, how very different the gameplay is...

    Your favorite post-apocolyptic movie?

Maybe they're both based on the novella, "I Am Legend"? But I re-read the novella recently, and I recall The Last Man on Earth following the plot more closely than The Omega Man did. (Then again, it has been a long time since I last saw either movie.)

    Your favorite post-apocolyptic movie?

The Last Man on Earth is an old movie. (It's in B&W, right?) Which is surprising, because its premise – a lone man surviving in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by vampires – seems like something that was made up within the past 20 years or so. But, no, that movie was based on Richard Matheson's...

    Can I Ignore An Opponent?

Well, if I could lower my Dex bonus from my AC, for the kobold, and allow the kobold a +2 flanking attack bonus and maybe even an attack of opportunity (since I'm not threatening him), just so the ogre wouldn't get the +2 flanking attack bonus, that's what I'd do. Of course, the rules don't...

    Can I Ignore An Opponent?

I disagree with that statement. If, say, I were a heavily armored fighter and I were confronted with a kobold and an ogre, flanking me, I would completely ignore the kobold while I concentrated my attacks/defenses on the ogre. Nothing unthinkable or incomprehensible about that.

    Can I Ignore An Opponent?

Interesting. So, if one is allowed to ignore an opponent, and if that opponent attacks and inflicts damage, should one have to make a Concentration check to continue ignoring that opponent?

Why doesn't the 5' step provoke AoO?

Ducking down to scoop up some dirt to fling at an opponent while you're in his threated area, will provoke an AoO from that opponent. :p

Agreed. Even in their day, those two were considered bad. And cheesy.

Superman I & II: not all that

I agree, it does seem cheesy in light of today's culture. But have you guys read the Superman comics that were being published in the '70s, when that first movie was made? And the Superman comics that were published in the '60s were even worse. Take a look at this...

Why doesn't the 5' step provoke AoO?

For all those here yammering about how unrealistic, unfair, and/or un-fun it would be, taking away the 5'-step loophole that allows one to avoid an AoO while drinking a potion; consider this... Potions of healing are pretty cheap, right? So, humanoid opponents of CR 1 or better should be able...

Why doesn't the 5' step provoke AoO?

AoO's are neither a right nor a privalege. They are an opportunity.

Why doesn't the 5' step provoke AoO?

Well, my players still found healing potions just as useful, with my house rule invoked. However, whenever they're badly low on hit points, they first spend a full round doing a withdraw, away from melee (which doesn't provoke an AoO). Then, the next round, they drink a healing potion. This is...
