Wizards of the Coast Hiring New Lead Designer and Head of Game Ecosystem for D&D

I got three laughing emoticons (so far). Some people understand humour when they see it.

Wizards of the Coast Hiring New Lead Designer and Head of Game Ecosystem for D&D

Then: "The two top designers leave WoTC. Sales must be bad. D&D 5.5 is on health support. It can't survive." Now: "WoTC wants to hire two designers. D&D 5.5 is dying. 6e is around the corner and sooner than you think." In a few months: "WoTC announces a sci-fi RPG, a horror RPG and a modern...

    Pace in your game.

Since we play only 2.5 hours every two weeks online, we try to be efficient, make decisions quickly and move the story forward. Most of our games are of the investigation or mystery type. In person, if the players are debating for too long, I prompt them into action with an NPC, an event or a...

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

The Avatar Discord server is busy. 2000+ currently online.

IIRC she sold 10,000 with the original KS and 20,000 more retail.

    Minimalist and One Page RPGs

FU got a lot of love in my area when it came out in 2011. It was the go-to for one-shots or a stand-in RPG when some players cancelled at the last minute. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/fr/product/89534/fu-the-freeform-universal-rpg-classic-rules

    Minimalist and One Page RPGs

There is a portion of Soloists who prefer minimal or one-page RPGs, because they are heavily into journaling, and crunchy systems break the immersion. I'm a medium crunch soloist (dragonbane). I find minimalist RPGs lacking.

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

Dionne has said she sold 30,000 copies, which is excellent for an indie RPG. Assuming there is one book per 3-5 player table, that would mean 90,000 to 150,000 players IF they all play regularly and the book is not collecting dust on the shelves as another FOMO game that got played once or never...

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

GURPS too. How old is Morrus' WOIN?

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

Interesting metric. 10 years is a long time in the business world. Savage Worlds would qualify. Shadow of the Demonlord (2015) still gets adventures regularly.

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

I'm saying views and numbers of videos don't translate to direct sales. I was being hyperbolic. For example, Firefly has a huge presence on YouTube, and an uninformed viewer could think it's the number one hit on TV right now. It's not.

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

For me, social media presence is not a good metric to evaluate success. Shadowdark on social media like YouTube is gargantuan, you would think millions are playing it regularly. Not the case.

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

Two of my four players knew about it and had played Numenera, when I asked them if they wanted to play a Cypher system rpg campaign. On our Solo rpg FB group, several people are using it for their adventures. It is known and played, just not talk of the town.

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

One metric I look at to determine the success of an RPG is the continued publication of official expansion books and adventures. If the numbers are not there, publishers stop supporting the game and it becomes an Undead game. With two new books out and two others in production, Dragonbane has...

[KS] Dragonbane: Magic Book and Arkand City Campaign Book

I'm in for the two books and PDFs. Early All backers will get PDFs in advance. Magic Items for the Magic Book are unlocked. I'm looking forward to that chapter. Having a Canadian distribution hub is great news. Otherwise, I would have waited for the books to arrive at the local store. $412,124...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

Halfway through episode one. Liking the story so far. Sam gives a good show as always, but he needs to remember his card's special abilities! I like how Mat deftly avoided a shopping detour by saying the characters bought everything they needed for the expedition. He is doing a lot more forward...

    Worlds of Design: Battle Maneuvers

I concede. You are obviously far more intelligent and knowledgeable than 15-year-old boys having fun playing D&D to the best of their abilities in 1980.

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

This changes nothing for the Canadian steel, aluminum, and car industries. I'm still not buying US goods.
