Which 80s wargames and adventure games do you still play?

Sounds cool. Time and elimination are the thing. As for side battles, Space Empires 4X by GMT does that. You build forces, move, explore and when you enter an hex with an opposing force, you play out the battle outside the main board.

Which 80s wargames and adventure games do you still play?

6e is great to get people in the game quickly. We played it a few times with new players in their 30s. Great fun. I finished second. Almost bought Titan back in the day but wasn't sure if anyone would want to play it. I bought an AD&D book instead. How is it?

Which 80s wargames and adventure games do you still play?

I was invited one afternoon to participate in such a game. The map was on a pingpong table in the basement. Hundreds of stacks of counters facing each other. We were six and played for four hours micro-managing every inch. I did not go back. Too slow for my hyperactive mind. I preferred Advanced...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Superheroes and Lovecraftian RPGs. Wasn't a reader of superhero comics growing up. I find some of the movies entertaining but I have no inclination of playing a superhero. My group is not into superhero either. I would play in pulp hard boil mask vigilant set in the 40s-50s like The Spirit. I...

Which 80s wargames and adventure games do you still play?

I played the same games in the 70s. The games we are talking about were not mass market, they were niche and usually found only at the local hobby shop, where they sold historical pewter miniatures for wargames, speciality trains, model cars and RC planes. TSR's D&D was the Trojan Horse that...

Which 80s wargames and adventure games do you still play?

We used to play it in the 90s, 5 or 6 players. Great fun. Civilization was the other big game.

We were supposed to play, but the owner of the game never did a session. I might give it a look, for archeological purposes. I played RoleMaster once but the GM and one player kept disparaging AD&D, so I left the group.

    - I.C.E's Middle Earth RPG is a classic of the era published in 1984. It uses simplified version of Rolemaster as base system. A d100 roll over system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle-earth_Role_Playing

Some of them could be found in gaming magazines. The Ares magazine by SPI published a full game in each issue. Citadel of Blood and Arena of Death were in that magazine.

5E Powered Gamma World: What Should It Look Like

Correct. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the Gammaworld boat has sailed for me. I used to give TSR 80% of my gaming budget in the 80-90s. Now I give WoTC about 10%. Fashion always comes back, the second time it's not for you. It's for the new generation. ;)

5E Powered Gamma World: What Should It Look Like

Gamma World is Planet of the Apes human-mutants nuclear bomb cultists, Island of Doctor Moreau and many other influences all rolled into one Gonzo game. It should be humorous and very scary at the same time. Logically, since most grognards are angry at WoTC for various reasons and they are now...

Worlds of Design: The Problem with Space Navies, Part 2

That is how 80s indie wargame companies started. They would sell their games in a ziplock plastic bag. They had rules booklets (letter paper folder in two), a thin cardboard hex poster map* and two sheets of counters. They fit in an enveloppe and were cheap to send by regular mail. My local...

How many were abused due to their love of D&D, RPGs, and related items when they were young?

The most problems I had with playing D&D is with ex-girlfriends. They all said it was childish and not manly. They wanted me to stop and didn’t like I spent time playing with my friends instead of with them. I dumpted them and married my gamer wife. Problem solved.

[Green Ronin] SAGE, Simple AGE system, Engine Magazine #3

Sorry for not commenting so far. I'm waiting for funds next week to buy it. If you've read it, I'm very interested in what you have to say. My hope is that the simplified version will make it easier to play solo. I know they've kept the stunt system, which is fine by me, it's what makes the...
