    Wolfgang Baur's "Kobold Quarterly" 'zine

Oh yes! And I so badly want to run a "Trap of the Month" centerfold, but.... I suck at drawing traps. ;) Actually, it's a smaller version of Dragon. A magazine for D&D gamers that covers setting, PC tactics, monsters, ecologies, interviews, and so on.

[Open Design] Kobold Quarterly 'zine launches!

I'm happy to announce the launch of Kobold Quarterly , an Open Design 'zine for gamers! The first issue will appear this summer, and all those who subscribe before the first issue ships will be charter subscribers. Eight Kobold Answers 1. Yes, this is a small community zine about D&D and...

    Cambion: Worst writeup ever?

The truth is, I screwed this up due to haste, and I had a misguided desire to fit in the cambion as a nod to Planescape. As best I can tell , it was a quick rip from 2e that I meant to develop and lost track of. Likewise, it was not noted or improved at the development and editorial levels. I...

WotC Replies: Statements by WotC employees regarding Dragon/Dungeon going online

Well, it's true what you say about online access. However, it's a shame that Wizards doesn't have access to the MMO rights for D&D. Turbine holds those rights right now, and is using them. So whatever the DI is, it is not an MMO. Comparing the DI to an MMO is a mistake.

WotC Replies: Statements by WotC employees regarding Dragon/Dungeon going online

WotC splatbooks and adventures rarely sell better than the magazines in terms of raw numbers per month (core books are the obvious exception). It's largely a matter of cost; magazines have a pre-sell to the subscribers, plus whatever they pick up from the newstand. However, some WotC books...

Pathfinder 1E Did WOTC take one for the team, help Paizo?

Alas, no. WotC just recently renewed the computer game licenses for D&D to Infogrames. So they aren't taking all licenses in house, and are specifically licensing out some forms of digital content.

Pathfinder 1E Did WOTC take one for the team, help Paizo?

I suspect ignorance and a certain mild disdain for the periodicals, rather than any real malice. There's a long history of misunderstanding between the periodicals staff and the design staff, going back to my time at TSR. When I was there, the designers felt that the magazines were.... Well, not...

    Wolfgang's "Demonweb Q&A"

Er, I didn't say that I didn't like Q1. I said that I liked Giants, the D series, and ToH better. In the case of G and D, that's because of my play experience with them: they are extemely short and reward DM improvisation. In the case of ToH, I like it because I'm a sadistic SoB who loves...

    A different quote from wolfgang

I'd agree with Ari that it does guarantee every encounter to have a minimum level of complication. It's simply impossible to do the quick-and-dirty listing like "goblins: hp 7 each". Sometimes that's a very good thing; other times it's a shame, because it does require every encounter to run at...

    Alas, poor Zobeck

Only enough to quote him at every opportunity. The series must be on DVD somewhere.

    Alas, poor Zobeck

I'm working furiously on a project that I cannot discuss. You might think it is the 4th AP, but I could not possibly comment...

    Alas, poor Zobeck

ROFLMAO  More Zobeck news as soon as I decide whether to jump off that particular cliff. Yes, it has been voted down twice. But I think I have a way to extract the bits people really want and ditch the rest....

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

The short answer is "No". Past patrons know about the work and have lots of opportunities to donate if they like. Access to Open Design materials ends when a particular project ends.

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

Yes, it's taking longer than I expected, but I should have an announcement for members shortly.

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

No, it cannot happen again, mostly because I feel burned by the way the first one turned out. I wasn't as clear as I could have been about the terms of the first one, and when I asked, "So, future patrons can get copies, right?" some people disagreed. I changed the terms for the second and all...

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

Huh, I'll buy arcane and off-putting, I guess, sort of. But why intimidating?

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

The first one was extremely arcane, though not really complicated. It just follows the old Renaissance model: patrons pay writer/artist/someone to make a thing. The thing gets made. End of story. The second one is a little more traditional, as people who are patrons of any project can get a...

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

I looked for a hardcover option on Lulu, but all I could find were softcover and spiral-bound. So I went with softcover when I prepped the files. If someone more familiar with Lulu can point me to a hardcover option, I'd be glad to make it available to the patrons.

Major patron and a smaller patron moved in the same direction. I'm expecting a couple more votes tonight, could move the needle back the other way.

Mearls says adventures are hard to sell [merged]

True enough. But the day Mr. Mearls offers to spend six months answering questions about his design fu, and showing off his secret tech, I will be there with $100 in hand.
