Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

The ghouls supporters are a much more vocal bunch, but the clockwork mages of the City-State are stealthy and numerous. They are very, very close, and a few people signing up as supporters could easily swing it. Last time I checked, the margin was about one standard patron. Fans of the...

    Company Product Listings

Since Open Design has been around a year and released two adventures, I'd like to edit the company listing (or create one) to show those. How do I start?

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

Sorry to have muddied the waters -- honestly, it hasn't really come up so far. The essays are a freebie I post about once a month while folks are members, on whatever topic is at hand. But sure, sign up for the third set and I'll make sure you have access to the essays from Shadowcrag. I think...

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

The two projects currently under consideration are both big and complex, so if the design starts in April, they will be written, illustrated, mapped, and edited by .... September or October? That's about right. Mind you, as a full patron you'd see the manuscript at every step of the way, but...

What do you think of Wolfgang Baur's Adventure by Design

I'm hoping one of the patrons will review the prior project (Shadowcrag). I may eventually be reviewed by ENWorld staff, but given the massive range of stuff they review, I wouldn't expect that any time soon. Your overall point is right: I don't think this is a format for new writers. It's more...

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

There's at least three products that will see significant use; the "Open" in Open Design does really come with an attempt to highlight good stuff from all over. Empire of the Ghouls is currently up by something like 112 votes to 100. Oddly enough, the people who donate to support the projects...

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

Hurray, pimpage powers still working! Actually, I was very pleased with the way Lulu worked for Castle Shadowcrag. It took a few tries to get the files prepped the way they wanted them, but a high-res, perfect-bound book for reasonable money (=at cost) is a good deal. Glad you're in.

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design #3 down to Ghouls vs. City-State

The Kingdom was written for 2E, and was short by today's standards. The Empire is not the same setting, but a revision of the concept to 3.5 and expanded with lots of new material: ghoul magic finally gets proper treatment, as do ghoul servitors, the conflicts with aboleths, cave dragons, a...

Pimp your favorite 10th level adventure

Cool, and thanks to you and Firedancer! Yeah, there's definitely a whole patron interaction thing that's taken over the projects more than I ever expected. For instance, I wrote some design essays just as freebies while I was getting the project off the ground, and they were so popular that...

Pimp your favorite 10th level adventure

Sounds just about ideal for Shadowcrag, which has about a 50/50 split between mystery/discovery and combat elements. The fights are all either directly related to the core story or optional combats that parties can talk their way around or avoid entirely if they like. There's an emphasis on...

Pimp your favorite 10th level adventure

That question is actually really hard to answer without knowing at least a little something about your players. But what the heck: 1) It's got a Gothic feel, but the castle is inhabited by a strange group of humans and dwarves and .... other things, which the party learns more about the longer...

Pimp your favorite 10th level adventure

It will ONLY be available in PDF format, and only through the Open Design site. Part of that whole private commission thing is that I don't mess around with the PDF download sites. Given your BBEG, it sounds like a good match. There's a new shadow monster, castle maps, some shadow spells and...

Pimp your favorite 10th level adventure

"Castle Shadowcrag", a castle teetering on the edge of the Plane of Shadow, ships on March 1. Since it's a private commission, you can be sure your players will never have seen it, and since it was designed with 50 gamers critiquing and improving it in the Open Design style, you can be sure it's...

    Planescape at D&D eXperience

The level spread was chosen by WotC. I imagine it has more to do with their market research about the player base than with the 1E adventure. I have no comment, other than to say I'd be very, very disappointed in this adventure if it took the "called away on business" approach.

    Planescape at D&D eXperience

Good eye. And this is the first I've seen of the art. FWIW, I wrote Planes of Law and Planes of Chaos before I wrote Demonweb Pits, so .... It's as much a Planescape book as I could make it. And I'll just mention that the editor is Michele Carter, who edited the original PS boxes and modules...

More upcoming titles has been released at the WotC site

Fortunately, neither Ari nor James nor I are stupid enough to explain the Day of Mourning. Although there are a number of theories...

    Underdark?

I'd recommend looting the 2E Night Below box set for parts, and possibly "Kingdom of the Ghouls" from Dungeon #70. Or -- yes, shameless plug -- you could donate to commission the upcoming 3.5 version of a ghoul-driven underdark at Open Design. That way you'd get a tailored design, of course...

Wolfgang Baur's Custom Adventure #3 voting open to the public

I'm from the Chicago school of elections: you *can* buy results. ;) Seriously, the easiest way to be sure that Ghouls wins is to donate as a patron. I suspect the voting option on the public page may only appear if you are logged in.

Wolfgang Baur's Custom Adventure #3 voting open to the public

FWIW, the Black Prince makes his first (extremely brief) appearance in the 2nd adventure, which is a 10th/11th level shadow and fey smorgasbord. Just sayin'.
