    Midgard Campaign Setting

Thanks for that review! And yeah, good party at AFK Tavern. And yes, the design philosophy is very much "plunder at will". Midgard seems to be one of those settings that winds up being eminently useful to gamers who brew their own material. That seems totally fitting to me, as the Kobold crew...

    Midgard Atlas for iPad‏

Plageman, a printed poster map is usually about $20. A world atlas is usually about $20 to $50, depending on quality. I think a super-high-res world map for $3.99 is a great deal. Plus, we'll be adding more city maps to the current 10, and more interactive elements as well. So.... Feedback noted!

Review of Midgard Atlas iPad app by Open Design

I hear what you are saying about wanting text to go with the maps. An atlas doesn't usually have that, but it's something I'd like to see. I'll be meeting with the developer about the next set of features later this week. As for the thread in the Kobold forums, there's an active one in the...

Review of Midgard Atlas iPad app by Open Design

Thanks for the review, Blackwarder! And yes, this is just the first step for the Atlas. More city maps are planned, and so are markers and overview information. However, a $3.99 app was never going to have the same level of detail as a huge printed book. The Atlas is meant to be an awesome...

Announcing the 2012 Gen Con EN World RPG Awards Nominees!

Congratulations to all the nominees! It is indeed a great time to be a gamer. Open Design is honored and delighted to have 4 nominees this year, including our first in the Adventure category.

Quick question: does the prohibition on online play affect your playtest?

Yes, this prohibition has forced me to cancel my playtest, as all my players are on the opposite coast of the US. We were using private Google Hangouts to play. Now.... I guess I'm not playtesting D&D Next. Perhaps I can find a group in town, but I rather liked the group I had.

Review of Zobeck Gazetteer (Pathfinder/d20) by Open Design

Definitely in print Dragonhelm, yep, this is definitely available in print at your FLGS or at the Kobold store or the Paizo store. Neuroglyph, thanks for the review! I'm glad to hear that the extra blood, sweat, and tears that went into this book shows.

Review of Kobold Quarterly Issue #20 (Winter 2012) by Open Design

Thanks for this review! I think it is fair to say that the 4E submissions have been few and far between lately; many of our regular 4E writers have moved on to other things. As always, we can only print what we have. On the bright side, though, both the qualilty and quantity of Pathfinder and...

Review of Kobold Quarterly Issue #19 (Fall 2011) by Open Design

This is very much a matter of slim pickings in the slush pile for 4E D&D. I keep asking/begging for more material, but for whatever reason, it's very hard to find much. That said, the Winter issue will have more D&D than the Fall did. I would encourage anyone who has a good idea for 4E article...

And another review, this one at Stargazer's World.

    Tales of the Old Margreve

Thanks for the review, Dark Mistress! I have just one bit of extra information: the Tales book is also available in print.

Wrath of the River King - Wolfgang Baur's Open Design

I'm unclear how I can make adventures any more accessible than they already are. When I say "released to the public", I really do mean released to the public. For 4E, for example, Courts of the Shadow Fey, Lost City, and future 4E projects are all going to provide patrons with the inside story...

Essentials Line and HS series: It appears WoTC really is listening.

I agree completely. Logan Bonner is writing the sandbox adventure The Lost City as a patron project, which fits right into the style discussed here. And the upcoming Courts of the Shadow Fey (ships in August) is very much in the open exploration style as well, focussed on a Shadow location.

On accepting PDF versions of printed products

Jaerdaph, that takes all the fun out of it. :D Seriously, the Electronic Book category is an odd duck, because on the print side we don't have "Paper Book" as a category. The advantage of splitting the Electronic Book category into two or three areas is that it would recognize great work in...

Pathfinder 1E Is PAIZO becoming the next Wizards?

Well, they've also just announced their second book line. While Planet Stories has been doing great work printing Anthony, Brackett, Gygax, Howard, Kuttner, and other greats of the past, the new fiction line ties in with their Golarion setting and features authors like Elaine Cunningham and...

What's happening with 3e?? Open Design, Necromancer Games, Sinister Adventures, Monte

I got to play in Tsar as run by the author at PaizoCon, and yeah... More, please.

4e Races I'd love to see, but probably never will:

It's not exactly the Shadowrun ghoul, but the PC ghoul race in the Imperial Gazetteer does some of what you're after, if I do say so myself.

    Eastern Rome source material

I love this thread! Another possible source of material would be the Dumbarton Oaks Online publications about Byzantium, including pilgrimages, art, siegecraft, etc. They might be a little TOO crunchy though, as they are written for academic purposes by professional researchers.

Wolfgang Baur's Open Design new games!

The essays are there for all patrons; in fact, the first two are already posted. So, $25 gets you all those, plus access to the design and playtest, plus the final adventure.
