    Stupid Maxim!

Who goes to Maxim to look at vidoes of fake geeks?

    pls recommend a 1st lvl adventure!(converting 3ed players to od&d!)

Ah, N1. I knew I was forgetting one. I'd second this as well.

    OD&D 4E and its effect on 1E/OD&D

To the OPs question. While I love alternate (Savage Worlds, C&C) and older (AD&D 1e) games, I just don't see people that like 3x switching to older versions because of the advent of 4x. I see them a) staying with 3x, b) switching to 4x or c) some combination. For the most part, I see people...

    AD&D1 Combat Exercise

Ah, the glories of AD&D combat. I'd almost forgotten. :) Korgoth's recollections match mine. I don't ever recall playing it RAW, or seeing anyone play it RAW, or even hear of anyone playing it RAW. We mished and mashed stuff together with glee, even from other game systems. That was half the...

    pls recommend a 1st lvl adventure!(converting 3ed players to od&d!)

I definitely second the mentions of Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh (U1) and Village of Hommlet (T1). If you don't mind a little conversion work from 3E, DCC #28 - Into the Wilds is a great intro adventure.

    Moving to C&C... need help

Talk about passive-aggressive. Yeesh. :uhoh: The SIEGE engine is built, and described in the rulebook, as a mechanic to allow players to describe what they want to do, the DM to rate its difficulty (and decide if it even needs a roll - often they won't), and then adjudicate the player's roll...

    Moving to C&C... need help

This is my question as well. I don't think C&C needs to have "enough information to replicate the mechanical effects of the 3e feat system without importing information from other games or creating new rules from whole cloth" (ye gods, what a load). I suppose for players with less imagination...

    Moving to C&C... need help

I'd say this is a common misconception about C&C, and if you're switching to it, be wary. Unlike more rules-heavy games, just because it isn't written on your character sheet doesn't mean you can't do it. If you convert characters with feats and such, they can still do them using the SIEGE...

    Deck of Roleplaying Opportunities

You should check the Adventure Deck made my Pinnacle for both d20 and Savage Worlds. It has a bunch of cool things like that, plus a lot of in-game cards. Here is a link for the d20 version: http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?cPath=117&products_id=18592&it=1

Arcanis or Scarred Lands - Help me decide

I'm a big Scarred Lands fan. I have most of the supplements for it, and its a kick-ass, gritty, grimy setting. Its got a lot of politics and overland travel potential (most of our first SL campaign was overland travel), and can be as light on the dungeon crawling as you care to make it. If you...

    3rd party publishers for 1st and 2nd AD&D?

A big difference then was availability. There weren't online gaming supershops, and there wasn't a resource like RPGNow allowing for very small page count products. There also weren't the availability of product reviews like there is now from all the various sources, nor online forums to discuss...

What do you want to see in a new magazine?

I'd like to see multiple games supported, especially in adventures. I'm sure 3x and/or 4x will be covered, but I'd like to see C&C and Savage Worlds and others (but specifically those, since I play those :) ) covered as well. Articles about other games would be nifty as well. I was perusing old...

Were you a 3.x hater when it was announced and are glad you made the switch?

I marked Other. I've never hated 3x. In fact, the big role out of 3rd edition got me back into gaming after an almost decade long hiatus, and I had skipped 2e altogether. It was pretty cool to see how far gaming had come, what with message boards, personal website, PDFs, etc. It wasn't until...

    Dragon/Dungeon archives on CD/DVD?

I love the archive of 1-250, so I'd buy 'em, easily. (Assuming I didn't have to repurchase 1-250 again - and even then, I'd seriously consider it.)

Why is the mid-level sweet spot sweet?

I agree with this. The other big thing is the mindset that naturally comes with having access to serious divination, movement (ie, teleport) and other powerful spells, like permanency. My favorite part of the game is in the doing - exploring, fighting, interacting, etc. At lower levels there is...

That was a fantastic story. Glad you guys had fun (well earned!), and thank you for sharing your fun with the jealous masses. :)

    best boxed sets?

I came to post the Wilderlands boxed set as well. Guess I'm not the only one. :) Let me add, then, that getting the Player's Guide to the Wilderlands really augments the boxed set. The Known Realms boxed set (DCC35) is good, too, and has some great ideas in it, but as a whole I don't think...

    D&D Miniatures retirement of sets

I wouldn't count on that, though. Chainmail equivalences are a sore spot for many. They were allegedly "promised" early on (I haven't seen the actual text of that myself), but last I checked it had been a fair number of sets since any were released. I see a second wave of updates falling into...

Tips for getting a group of strangers to gel as a group

Before I ever introduce someone new to my group, I always try to have coffee or lunch with them, game with them elsewhere or something else to gauge them and let them gauge me. Then I try to get everyone there early that first night of the game so that the new folk can introduce themselves. I...

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

I think you're spot on. I don't ever buy a first version Microsoft product, because its always buggy and incomplete. Wizards is teaching us the same lesson about their products, too.
