Hey WotC, SHOW ME THE SLA!!!

That totally depends on your level of technical expertise, how much planning time you had, and what your server (both hardware and software) architecture looks like. Some setups are relatively easy to scale - alert your hosting company (most do burstable bandwidth), slave a few reader databases...

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

I'm not angry, I'm amused. But then, I jumped off the WotC-flavored D&D bandwagon a few years ago. I'm actually hoping the new system is good. I'm looking forward to stealing ideas from it for my other games. :) But FWIW, I think the OP has the right of it. Were I still a WotC-flavored D&Der...

    D&D Miniatures retirement of sets

I think you are essentially correct, but I also believe that skirmishers affect the value of some long OOP figs that are or were skirmish-worthy - like the Orc Champ, DCoL and a few others. Heh. This gets around the whole set rotation thing, though. At least for another few years. :)

What is the proper pronunciation of "Grognard"?

Its "groan-yar", pretty much. Interestingly enough, this was a word in the last national spelling bee. I had known it to mean "old soldier", but it was originally specific to Napoleon.

Are you a 3.5e grognard? Post here!

Hey, thats not bad. Thats right up there with 3tard and 4oron. :)

Are you a 3.5e grognard? Post here!

I dunno. I think Grognard is a term already claimed by those who played D&D with an initial in front of it - OD&D, AD&D, even BECMI D&D. You decimal D&D folks (3.x, 4.x, etc) gotta go find your own term. ;)

D&D 4E Sight unseen - what are your plans for 4E?

I voted I will probably note switch to 4E, but will evaluate it. I'm not a big WotC fan by any stretch of the imagination, and I'm not likely to switch over to 4e. But I am interested in reading the core rules to see what they do/change, and see if there are any ideas worth stealing for my C&C...

Pathfinder 1E An open letter to Paizo

Sure, discussion. I guess calling someone a hypocrite counts as "discussion" in your lexicon. You didn't say "where there is no violence". You said "bad and evil". There is a large gap between the two, but you seem to equate them. Violence outright equaling evil is, at absolute best, a modern...

Pathfinder 1E An open letter to Paizo

Ye gods, enough with the absolutes already. The OP is objecting to a very specific type of reference that Paizo is (inadvertently or purposefully) promoting - that which supports "a drug lifestyle". Perhaps if you spent some more time reading instead of so vociferously demanding he's a hypocrite...

Pathfinder 1E An open letter to Paizo

I can see this from the OPs point of view, but ultimately I don't agree with that POV. Am I thrilled that Paizo carries it? Not particularly, but I won't stop shopping there because of it. Like others have mentioned (although a tad more acerbically), if you draw the line at purchasing from any...

Wizard’s web site down and their big announcement at Gen Con

I was just trying to give them some credit. ;)

Regardless of Edition, what do you like about D&D?

Hmm. In no particular order: I like the modern unified mechanic. I like C&C's version of it based off primes even more. I don't like the d20, though - I'd prefer to see something with an actual curve, like 2d10. I like defined spells. Not necessary the spell system (Vancian, or whatever), but...

What Cool Things Should the Rules Let You Do?

My top three: Throw sand in your opponent's face, and have it possibly have a tangible effect. Yell "look over there!" and point, and possibly distract your opponent. Grapple (without a degree in advanced rulesology) (Interestingly enough, one of our games of choice, Savage Worlds, does all...

    Bad RPG Ideas, #477

I think this one sounds a whole lot like another game that is wildly popular and currently printed by the world's largest RPG publisher. :p

    [Myspace] "Worship"

... and you'd get Castles & Crusades. Seriously. If that at all remotely appeals to you, check it out. Heh. Excellent. Most excellent.

[rumor, not fact!] Hasbro selling off WotC

Okay ... I am the TITANIC! Hmm. Wait.

What's been your longest break from playing RPGs?

I took a break from around '93 to 2001, so around eight years or so. Sadly, sold off my of my old gaming stuff during that time, too. :(

Is threat of death a necessary element of D&D?

I think the threat of death needs to be there. It doesn't need to be happen often or indiscriminately (unless you're playing 1st level C&C or AD&D characters :D ), but I think it needs to be present, always hovering in the background, always a concern. Some "skin in the game", as an old boss of...

    Anyone remember Comeliness?

I do indeed remember when EGG introduced Comeliness. :) I view Charisma as "force of personality", and typically appearance doesn't matter much. I like the way Savage Worlds deals with it, where being particularly Attractive or Ugly are Edges or Hindrances (respectively). I'm doing something...
