Voting Results Turned over to the Board.

Agreed. On this very thread one side says there was cheating, the other side says no proof has been offered, and that the charge of cheated was removed instead some mumbo jumbo about "holding the awards in contempt" was offered as a disqual reason. For serious? If you have proof of cheating...

    New put down

Heh. For some reason, the first thing I thought of was the old baseball put-down: "warning track power".

TLG's Castle Keeper Guide for C&C

Of all the new C&C books, if it contains what I think it will (such as alternate rules and subsystems) this is the one I'm looking forward to the most. I like how TLG has handled C&C so far (especially the mechanics), and I'm looking forward to seeing their takes on additional mechanics.

Sell me on Savage Worlds -- for Fantasy

Gundark said it, well, perfectly. "The strengths of Savage Worlds are also it's weaknesses. Just like some complaints about d20 some find are the game's strengths." I don't think I've ever seen that thought expressed better. I'll add something about SW. It plays better than it reads (and it...

Sell me on Savage Worlds -- for Fantasy

This happens in Savage Worlds a lot, at least in modern and SciFi games. Getting cover is very important when bullets start flying. Also, ranged fantasy combat can be deadly with someone who knows their way around a bow; put Aim and Called shot together with the standard TN of 4, and you can put...

    Table of Diagonal Movement Rates?

Yeah. I use this simplification as well, even in other games. Counting diagonals as 1, 2, 1, 2 is just much easier, and with little downside.

Sell me on Savage Worlds -- for Fantasy

Dunno about doing d20 faithfully, but as an exercise in creating an "old school" flavor SW campaign (even more old school than Dungeons & Savages, which I think is a great document, but didn't go quite as far as I wanted to go) I went through my old 1st edition PHB and C&C PHB and created spell...

Sell me on Savage Worlds -- for Fantasy

I could probably be considered a fanboy, so be warned. :) I've gamed since the early 80s, went on a hiatus for much of the 90s, starting gaming again with 3e, but got burned out by all the world required to DM, so switched to SW a few years ago, and haven't looked back since. So... I love...

Game design that I'm surprised didn't make it into more books

My players didn't want to play initially because of the same misconceptions. Now they don't want to play anything else. :) I would say that while Savage Worlds is rules-lite, its definitely not rules-missing. SW is a great game for low prep. I spend a vast majority of time on plot and...

D&D 4E What would you want to see in 4E?

I'd love to see WotC license the Savage Worlds rule set, add classes (as packages skill/edge packages), add a better magic system (or multiple systems to reflect different magic styles), expand the equipment and magic item lists, and call it 4e. :)

    Published or homemade adventures?

I usually use published modules (with various levels of modifications, based on the module) as the meat in my games, while creating the various side encounters, in-town adventures, and the links between adventures myself.

    Wizkids Pirates for naval combat?

I was going to say the same thing. The book is gorgeous, the ship rules are well done, and the game is designed to use the Wizkids ships.

    What's your DMing Rule 0?

Right there with you on this one. "Find ways to say Yes" has been something I've gravitated to more and more over the years. Makes it more fun for everyone.

Best Five RPG Books You Own

AD&D DM's Guide - Still the best, most varied and most interesting DM book ever written. I've used things out of this book for a variety of different games for 20+ years, and will probably continue to use it for another 20+. This is simply the best RPG book I've ever owned or read. Savage...

Computers beat up my role player

Thanks, guys, for polluting what was an otherwise interesting thread. I found the insights about UA and early play styles most enlightening, while your quibbling is quite the opposite. Why not start a new thread instead of continuing your pointless "discussion" here?

What are some other good non-d20 fantasy systems

I'm a big fan of Savage Worlds as well. Great system. The Spell/Powers system takes a little getting used to in a fantasy context, but is a highly flexible system that can be used to emulate all kinds of different fantasy worlds. Its also one of those systems easy to change, so you could really...

How do you deal with canon fanatics?

I'm going to address these out of order. My solution to that is to set it in a different time period than exists for canon. "Sure, that was what it was like .... 100 years ago. But we're 100 years in the future, and things have changed." I advanced the timeline in my Scarred Lands game and...

    D&D 4E Does the OGL/D20 liscense hurt 4e? Should 4e be open?

I think it will be OGL compatible simply because it won't be difference enough from 3x to not be. Look at all of the various systems that have been released under the OGL. Now, is 4e's mechanics and rules and text going to be so different that other publishers won't be able to use the OGL to...
