Quicker than the Eye feat - broken?

It is strong, but unless i'm mistaken an opponent can negate the chance of a melee qtte move with a simple five foot step. if the rogue is required to take a five foot step, he or she cannot use the move equivalent qtte and then take the sneak attack (unless I've misinterpreted the feat).

Improved Sneak Attack: good, bad or broken?

Gah! I could see it working in a system where sneak attacks are far less common (like needing a Bounty Hunter PrC in Star Wars) and far less powerful (again, SW's BH max of +4d6).. but picturing a DnD rogue putting out 6d8 instead of 6d6 is scary.

    Wild idea for haste/ slow

I think it would be a sort of reverse from what 3.5 suggests now. Instead of it being pro-melee (extra attack) it becomes more pro-casting (no aoo in threatened space). It also allows for close quarters manuevering without risk of aoo's- so the rogue need not tumble, and the fighters can do a...

Making combat move more -- pressing attack, lunge, losing ground, and the like

Perhaps fighting defensively could require someone to move away from an attacker 5ft and the attacker moving that same 5ft forward towards the defender as a no action after damage is assigned (unless unable due to flanking, spot occupied, etc). This adequately describes a passive fighting style...

    damn magic......

If you have a cleric in your party of roughly the same level as your dwarf, ask him very kindly to bless you with Spell Resistance or Spell Immunity at the beginning of battle. You will probably have to ask very, very, very nicely however- as you'll be asking to be impervious to both melee and...

    Xp for getting butt kicked?

Step 1. Identify the challenge the PCs were supposed to overcome in this fight. Step 2. Determine if they did, or to what degree they did. Step 3. Find CR of encounter and determine the experience rewarded by overcoming the challenge to the degree that they did. Step 4. Alter this reward...

    A Paladin Question

I was going to post a good long "paladin wouldn't suffer a fiendish companion" post.. but then I read Elder-Basalisk and he pretty much took all the words out of my mouth and went to the trouble of making them far more eloquent than I ever could.. so i'll just throw my 2 cp in with a...

    Drawven Cleric PrC???

Cleric / Dwarven Defender / Templar... *drooooool* Actually, with your Dex of 10 the Dwarven Defender is out unless you find and keep on Gloves of Dexterity that can keep you at Dex 13+ ... Thinking of that, I'd probably avoid Rogue with this dexterity as well; as is, your character should be...

Is your love for 3E waning? Waxing? Staying steady?

3rd edition is a pretty elegant rule set. still learning it after over two years of play, but it's great. So I'm steady. However- I dislike a lot of the stuff coming out that is supposed to add to character power, as I'm an advocate of balancing the rise in power / the availability of options...

Would you give XP for this?

Definitely gets experience for surviving... even if it's just stumbling through them as anyone who isn't a rogue will do. However- I'd seriously consider weighing the circumstances into the equation by looking at the "Modifying Encounter Levels" p.167 as the CR.. EL.. whatever can be affected...

Doc Midnight's STILL cutting Character Illustration commission prices in HAAAALF!

I would love to buy things like this, but I hesitate simply because characters die. Oh it'd be so irksome to get quality art like the Doctor's and then turn around and the next weekend have that character perm. Excellent homages to old characters though.

What's the best way to run a game online?

I use OpenRPG ( www.openrpg.com ) -It has a chat function (good thing no?) with little things you can do to differenciate players- various text colors etc. Each character also has a little "status" readout that he or she can alter as appropriate- idle / typing / bathroom / etc. -a grid-map...

    Please rate Divine Vigor

I gave it a 7, but I'm biased as my Cleric of Cuthy 2 has it. I think it's of great use at low levels, and peters down to good use in mid and high levels. Right now, with 13 STR and a Medium load (wearing Banded Mail) I move 15 ft per round. With this, I move 25 ft a round. While this means...

    Weird things that attract players

One of my friends and fellow players loves Bolos. "Ranged touch attack that can trip??? WEEEEE!!!"

[Rant] Oh. My. God. He said no!

I would sit him down for a few minutes- attempt to be as brief as you can, and get straight to the point by explaining what I believe he did wrong from my perspective. I'd go over how metagaming like he did only led to the deaths of half the party, and what kind of impact his kind of "no no...

    [OPINIONS QUERY] Paladin-Alignment Situation!!

Nice predicament. as stated above, I can't see either having a "true" claim over it. The Paladin wishes to use it for his god, which translates poorly to the realm of mortals (unless it doesn't... in the campaign). The dwarf's case, while definitely as dwarven as all get out, is also invalid...

Area of Effect for Turn Undead

Please insert "to my understanding" at the beginning of each response. "When turning undead, does the turn affect all the undead within a 60' radius?" No- it affects the closest undead first, then works its way to the next. When you run out of turning damage, the undead stop turning. So if...

[OT] Anyone with experience playing Empire Earth?

From what I've read, the Empire Earth AI is so blindingly dull that it is set up to cheat like crazy. To see how this happens simply make one computer AI your teammate and watch what they do. Even in a low resource game where you can afford at maximum, 1 tower (with 175 Stone or what have...

DMs:ever have player get mad at you for their dumb decision

Tactically, he played poorly and suffered for it- plain and simple. As long as the player is capable of making informed decisions as has been said above (Ie roughly knowing how bad these things are to his health) then he can make "dumb" choices which should indeed result in exactly the...

Party Levels, CR, and Those Wacky Stats!

We used standard array and standard array +3 pts (for point buy per dmg) for paladins and monks who are more stat dependant. This was done with the condition that the player locked in ten levels as a monk or a paladin (to prevent rapid multiclassing out of the class). We liked it. We're...
