The best way to do Death Effects?

I'm for either ability damage (and I'm even okay with big-ass amounts of it, like "touch the Wand of Orcus, take 2d6+10 Con and Wis damage") or (coincidentally) Li Shenron's slightly old but bloody brilliant "Mortally Wounded" condition, which I found linked just recently and added to the house...

Find the path -- destination definable by effect?

Personal reading: Finding the heart of a magical storm would, IMO, count as "finding your way in to" a location. It's a 6th level spell, it should really have a use or two out of the dungeon or rock-paper-scissorsing Maze.

So what 3E adventures were worst?

 "If you're not having fun, Tomb of Horrors is delivering the play experience it promises". That doesn't sound like a defense.

    D&D is Unfun [humorous troll]

My critical eye suggests this title's got an extra word in it.

The Shared Experience: Keep on the Borderlands

First game in 1990, never played the Keep.

So what 3E adventures were worst?

So, ummm...I'm in a RttToEE game now. It's in the .sig, as you might have noticed. It's kind of a string of fight scenes and D&D jokes, but we've been having fun with it. Our last encounter involved ; are we into the drudgery and boredom part or is it still to come?

The most important people in the world (my players stay out)

Curses, found this one too late. I've been reading the old illithid and aboleth threads PC was involved in and I'd be sorely disappointed if the meeting weren't attended by an elder savant in a glass tank, a la Guild Navigators.

D&D 4E What 4E class do you most want to try out?

Fighter. It's time to see a version of D&D in which spear fighting is more interesting than "I set to receive a charge". Then a cleric.

Is 4th edition getting soft? - edited for friendly content :)

"That's not semantics. I'll show you semantics!"

DMG to include a "starter town".

Waste of space? Hardly! That's where the XP values for the monsters are kept. My perception is that the Monster Manual is used for planning the dungeon, while the DMG is actually at the table and ready for reference or quick copying into notes.

    Design & Development: The Warlock

Correction: Assassin's in the PHB. First class in the book.

Is 4th edition getting soft? - edited for friendly content :)

Early game design - like 1e - was nothing but trial and error. Why some gamers persist on pursuing the error is beyond me.

Well, it's a gross oversimplification, but it contains a nugget of truth bereft of context and intellectual honesty.

I'd like you to indulge me in an exercise. Pretend that I've played a couple 6-month campaigns of 3.5, so I know how the rules work, but always in pre-written adventures. Let's assume they've all been pretty good modules, and the GM was workmanlike but not remarkable. Now I've stepping up to...

Do you play in games you aren't enjoying?

Yep. I've even run games I wasn't enjoying. I work nights, while most of my group is attending university and those who don't work at physically demanding jobs (unlike mine, where I do my gaming prep). Even scheduling once a week is hard with 6 adults with full-time schedules - we're just lucky...

    How soon will you switch?

Err, other? Likely in October, when they've had a chance to do some errata and some spellchecking and release the special edition books. I'll certainly look at the SRD beforehand, but I don't buy manuscripts. I prefer books that appear to have seen an editor.

D&Disms That Make You Go "Huh?"

Pixelbitching A style of GMing--specifically, a form of railroading--in which the players need to find one specific clue in order to advance on the one plotline determined by the GM, cannot proceed without it, and do not get any help from the GM in finding it. If said clue is particularly...

Who Do You Want Illustrating 4th Ed.?

You've seen two? Which ones? And I'd really say more like filler art in the back of a cheap 70's sci-fi fiction magazine.

Is 4th edition getting soft? - edited for friendly content :)

Glad to see I'm not the only person who thinks that math works. ;) Personally, I don't mind save or die, but anything that appears before level 20 (my homebrew goes to 36, like D&D should) will do ability damage ending in death/permanent state at 0, because I think that's cooler and allows me...
