D&D 4E Chris Perkins on Forgotten Realms 4e

I believe I was quite clear that only a small percentage of the fan base is soiling themselves in anger, while the majority of responders were negatively disposed to the changes. In fairness, I've never posted and rarely even bother to log in when I read the WotC boards. My numbers could be...

Does The New Edition Raise Your Houserulling Interest?

I was actually in the process of breaking open 3.5 for a total overhaul - more skill points, plenty of the stuff Mearls has written (inspiration from Iron Heroes included) and Monte's house rules tossed in, and heavily inspired by the Ultimate Classes once hosted on the WotC boards - when 4e was...

One (Awesome) Gamer's Perspective: My Hobby is Gaming

This. The L5R 3e is proving a fascinating little toy to play with, almost as much fun as the ORE system, but 3.5 is so tidy and modular* and the stories to actually play with it come easily. * When you play, as I do, in a home group with old friends who don't really care about balance as long...

So, I bet that the d12 is getting kicked to the curb...

Not to my knowledge - though older AD&D editions refer to virtual die types (like the d5) not used in 3.x - but I believe at some point the d10 was added in. Can a grognard back me up?

D&D 4E Chris Perkins on Forgotten Realms 4e

There's a post shortly thereafter offering some string, and one yet later saying it's what they deserve. "Destroy the Realms" is described at least once as "not going far enough" in the pejorative, and the characterization of Wizards' staff as being "weasels" who released 3.5 (with this in the...

    D&D 4E I'm really concerned about 4E

While I got a similar impression from the thing you're talking about - I thought it was the last podcast though - though I gleaned level 10+ from it.

D&D 4E Chris Perkins on Forgotten Realms 4e

Rough estimate from my poking around? Of those talking about it, 5% very positive, 25% a little positive, 50% "unnecessary!" negative, 15% quite negative, 5% soiling themselves in anger.

hint for new Forgotten Realms/Spellplague in Unsolved Mysteries of Dragon magazine?

Scooped! But slightly on the subject, I never did a migration and I've had no trouble accessing anything on Wizards. I did register, then have to register again the next day (this was about 3 weeks ago), but no other issues.

    * THIS is a link to the Wizards catalog entry for The Orc King.

I prefer 'inform', but yes. It's a two-way street. To whit, I've never built a 1e world with sorcerers, nor a 3e world where dwarven clerics are oathbound to remain in their Halls (how else do you justify them being NPC only?).

So, I bet that the d12 is getting kicked to the curb...

O.o Huh? People pick up d8s instead of d10s, and d12s (or in several "Oops, I'm cheating!" moments, a d30) instead of d20s. d12s aren't shaped anything like d10s. Barrel dice. I've got some full sets of them. -Very- nice dice.

:\ You're used to, maybe. Retcons bigger than "now this monster/spell/item/organization that you haven't encountered before!" make me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Is 4th edition getting soft? - edited for friendly content :)

Now let's say Jozan hasn't read the module first, since I can't think of any of the detection spells worth keeping up at all times that gives you advance warning of the specific type of undead out of your line of sight*. So there's no Death Ward. Now what? * If there is one, let's say he's out...

    D&D 4E I'm really concerned about 4E

One would think world-building would be system-neutral. But without knowing what's coming down the pipe, I personally find myself reluctant to get started to any serious degree.

Also, my d4 barrel dice roll just fine, thank you very much. It's not the die's fault you'll only roll platonic solids.

Well sure, a Wall of Force is invisible and grants you line of sight. But , so he'll have to wait on the capping wall and be above the Tube O' Death when he starts casting.

Upon further research, the Chessex ones are Roman numerals, the Koplow ones are pipped. Like this one.

So, I bet that the d12 is getting kicked to the curb...

If 4e drops the full gamut of polyhedrals - I'll accept trimming out the d12 because I don't know what I -would- use it for, though I feel it's underused - it'll be a source of mods for my move to the Grog Side. I haven't plunked down more money on dice than books in the past year to see them...

D&D 4E Chris Perkins on Forgotten Realms 4e

O.o Having taken a browse through there, I think any claims that there's an ENWorld forum, 4e or not, that looks anything like the Wizards boards are gross exaggerations.

They're not cheap, but you can get 12-sided dice labeled 1-4 (though I think they're actually pipped) 3 times over.
