D&D 4E Really?? Is RPGA really the best place to test 4e

I wouldn't take a seat at an RPGA table for love or money, but that's a playstyle issue more than anything. I in no way begrudge them - as a community - first crack at the playtest. Those are the rules they'll have to play by or quit to avoid, after all. Some of their players, OTOH, I wouldn't...

    Slow Changes (Just theoreterizin...)

Agreed. As on board as I am with 99% of the 4e changes (and I can always homebrew gods and house rule the advancement), the loss of classes and levels would kick the ball clean out of the D&D field. Besides, what would GURPS nerds deride the game for then?* :D * I kid, really. Great system.

    Warlock confirmed in PH1...

Probably because he's playing a cleric.

    Warlock confirmed in PH1...

So, let the speculation begin re: Sorcerer... - Appearing in a later Arcane sourcebook? or - Killed by the Warlock and looted of his stuff?

Dungeons & Dragons d20 books on Amazon

Seconded. I know I'm switching, and I ordered LoM. Fluffy goodness and my first conversion efforts. :D

    How to describe a race?

Allow me to toss my festive hat in the ring for either "lineage" or "heritage", if "race" is really going to be a problem - and I accept that groups concerned with the possible interpretations of language used may consider it a problem I mean, I'll just write Race on any character sheets I make...

What is your top question/concern about 4th edition?

WHAT ABOUT THE DAMN DRUID?!? Ahem. I mean, I'm curious as to the druid's presence in 4e; reserved for a later core? Further separated from the cleric? Rolled into the cleric for a taste of its 1e roots (in which case, do the Visage of the Diety suggest a theme of 'taking on greater power' with...

    New Design: Wizards...

My theory is that the sentence is specifically constructed that way. "They call upon arcane strikes, power words, and spells to unleash raging torrents of cold, fire, or lighting, confuse and enthrall the weak-minded, or even turn invisible or walk through walls." Arcane strikes for blasting...

    D&D 4E DMs--Are you ending your campaign for 4e?

Yes, but by then my current campaign (see sig) will likely have come to a close and I'll quite possibly be running some Iron Heroes until the DMG hits shelves and I retreat from the DM chair to internalize 4e and write a campaign. There'd better be aboleths in MMI.

mind flayers, possessors, or phrenic scourges?

Those of you who never went in for Classics of Fantasy truly missed out. Best monsters I've ever seen to fill iconic (i.e., the closed content) roles. That said, I'm afraid that for sheer staying power through the ages, it has to be mind flayers - though I prefer "illithid" by far.

Anyone else hope the rules for taking 10 & 20 see some revision?

Wow. I'm with this guy, and some of you take this WAY too seriously. One may notice that parser-based puzzle games died pretty much all at once, and completely, when the technology improved enough for a more effective interface. A human DM has absolutely no excuse for "You didn't check HERE...

    D&D 4E Poll: 4E god stats

Having been reading along with this thread, I'd like to further explain my position. Stats are for avatars and aspects because the god sends those out to send a message, or whack some pesky mortal. The gods themselves can certainly be killed. I just don't feel "jumped in the Astral and beaten...

D&D 4E FR 4E SPOILER - Grand Histoy of the Realms info

Wow. If they're bad enough to bother someone who enjoys Alias novels, I may have to revise my opinion. Though in fairness, I should point out Tolkien was merely a handy example of an author whose reception could be mixed; it could as easily have been Stephen King. Agreed.

    Filling Class/Role combos

I assume the monk is martial, as there's a martial sourcebook confirmed IIRC that sounds like a good place for them to publish it. They seem a lot more like striker in their 1e & 3e philosophy. Although, a thought occurs to me; the sourcebook classes may stretch a little further over two roles...

D&D 4E FR 4E SPOILER - Grand Histoy of the Realms info

I find him dry to the point of unreadable, having sacrificed character on the altar of detail. I respect him immensely as a world builder and linguist, very little as writer. He does get a nod for volume of words.

D&D 4E 4e How Should PCs be allowed to Die (Cinematically or Like Everyone Else)?

First, mirrors my experience. And in answer to your first question, not really. The PC is there to be played by the player as his vehicle into the fictional world and his means of affecting change in it - in effect, his ability to contribute to the game. The villain is there to challenge and...
