    D&D 4E Comment about 4E designers loving D&D

I think more accurately, you should have focused more on reading the site rules, and thus avoided discussing politics (which is never allowed here). Quick, edit! :D

Complete Disagreement With Mike on Monsters (see post #205)

On the thread thus far: As I see the argument going via this analogy, given Gandalf is a Maiar, it's more that because Gandalf can cast a magical spell, Conan can't. Cimmerians don't have those abilities, Maiar do. Of course there are no Maiar in Hyborea, but you get the idea. I second the...

Power of Level X Characters in the 4th Edition Relative to Prior Editions

Assuming the folks who are designing D&D understand and can talk about D&D in a fashion other than telling you about their character, they know precisely how to answer that question. It's not hard - Where does a 4e character get wish, or equivalent? When can I track down and beat up a balor that...

D&D 4E So who is going to measure distances in 4E rather than use the grid?

'Measuring' implies the use of minis. I wing it, because that's the only way it feels enough like a combat for my tastes without putting pinhole cameras on the minis to provide the players their ONLY view of the battle and creating a tick-based d20 combat system.

    What the heck is "Unfun"?

I can't be the only person amazed that the bulk of 4e's more strident naysayers got their PHB a year early, and that the design team produced a risk-free game despite all evidence to the contrary. Damn alternate reality time machines!

    WotC Blogs II

Based on the follow-up explanation, I will go on record now as 100% in favor of this approach.

D&D 4E What level (APL) will you start your first 4E campaign?

That's the most brilliant idea I've seen today. I can't believe it never occurred to me.

    What the heck is "Unfun"?

"It's totally true! On this other site, they're talking about an anime whose name I recognize! Some people say it's ridiculous!" What does that even have to do with your point that players don't want risk again? This is a complete fabrication and I think you're smart enough to know that. If...

    What the heck is "Unfun"?

This seems to me to be really passive-aggressive and not conducive to civil conversation in an already heated thread. Maybe everybody should take five, make some tea, and come back at this thread with fresh eyes.

    Heroic Frequency

My 1e and 3.5 settings use the 100+ model, and bears a lot of similarities to Imp's model in that some of them function very differently than PC groups would. A great many of the successful ones become caravan/shipping companies after a year or two of adventuring, having developed contacts...

    What the heck is "Unfun"?

This, this I'm with you on. And Command being reduced to five 'tactically balanced' words? Terrible choice. My 1e books share space on my shelf with the 3.5 stuff - at least until 4e arrives. The skin-of-your-teeth, sometimes good people die stupid deaths, think first style appeals to me as...

The game police, they live inside of my head

My understanding of his message appears to be that the players should have to acquire that knowledge through playing, rather than that knowledge being unnecessary for them.

The game police, they live inside of my head

It strikes me as odd one would use such a non-simulation-oriented game for such a simulation-heavy playstyle. I mean, Hit Points are such an abstraction that a successful attack roll might, but does not always, indicate that your weapon actually struck home. Wouldn't something like GURPS, HERO...

    What the heck is "Unfun"?

You know, your tone aside, I'll be honest, Sundragon. After that ridiculous list of non-issues you opened with, I haven't been engaging you with any degree of seriousness, and I guess it'd be more polite to do otherwise or bow out. Since you're busy trying to prove your playstyle objectively...

    What the heck is "Unfun"?

Sorry, what's the challenge in "First round! Make a Fort save or don't play in this hour long combat" again? Or to make my own ill-considered analogy, the new edition of Monopoly where there's a Chance and Community Chest card (1 each) that says "Return all your money and property to the bank...

    What the heck is "Unfun"?

Yep. Said they didn't feel he's a troll. Which is what was said, in addition to pointing out the absurd and extreme hyperbole used to "sell" his point. Color me confused this needed a going over.

    What the heck is "Unfun"?

Wait, "only have your character to worry about"? :):):):):):):):). I also have a job, a fiancee, bills, my homebrew worlds and smaller campaign settings, my cat, some historical reading, and a hotter-than-all-hell 9' by 9' custom-built Necromunda board (WiP) to worry about. Gaming is 5 hours a...

Will you be buying the 'Wizards Presents' previews?

Oh, i remember the nature of the kerfuffle, just that I kinda went "Huh. Man, I'm way more bothered by hints of Thor as a major god, trapped all alone in D&D without Odin or Freya or even any VIKINGS" and clicked away. I guess for me, myth is myth* and a D&D world needs ones of its own, but I...

Will you be buying the 'Wizards Presents' previews?

Well, to actually contribute: Probably not the previews, 90% yes to 4e, and I missed anything from PC about not talking about Asmodeus (will he appear if I say his name again?) and wasn't that concerned anyway so my apologies and dropped.

At what point are you no longer playing AD&D?

Now if he's advised to enforce a lack of player knowledge, for example to arbitrarily deduct large sums of gold or magic items from the character of any player who exhibits knowledge found in the DMG, you're playing AD&D true to spirit. :p
