Dragonborn - will you ban them?

Welcome to the fold, my scaly friends. I actually suspect 4e will be a game I rarely spend the time to house rule.

How do you feel about Fluff in your Crunch?

I'd say there are much better games for medieval European fantasy gaming than D&D. WFRP 2e, for example, is excellent. D&D's always been great at yahoo over-the-top dragon-nad-punching freakout kitchen sinkery, so I figure embrace the strengths. YMMV.

Welcome to the 4e forum! :\

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

    EDIT: Whoops! Nevermind. Old.

    On The Horrible Naming

I question the selection of that definition of "strike" when discussing the special ability of a barbarian in a game about kicking horrible fantasy monsters in the junk and taking their loot. It seems pretty obvious it's about hitting. That said, without seeing the description I'm hesitant to...

"Yes you should have. I recommend reading over your smites when you have a free moment to ensure you're familiar with all their effects."

Races & Classes details from the WotC boards

As a DM and homebrewer who doesn't consider a world completed without a zodiac, I'd like to say the Star Warlock makes my geekness swell. :D

Such as, say, making one more adept with the spellcasting techniques of the Golden Wyvern order of wizards, which will (if previous articles are to be believed) at least be described in overview in the wizard section of the PHB? ;)

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

My first instinct explanation was this, though more in a "Holy hell did you see what he did to Bill!?!?" approach amongst the foes. Which I realize is silly, but made me chuckle.

Well that's just super, but sadly, I don't think the core rulebooks will be written exclusively for extreme outlier campaigns.

    Just a couple of questions

I'd be more inclined to call myself 'Dragonborn' than 'Halfling', personally. Consider it; you're a fisherman in a coastal village, doing whatever fishermen do to their nets that takes all day after fishing. A great sailing ship appears on the horizon, and the village gathers to watch as it...

How do you feel about Fluff in your Crunch?

Had to vote the fourth. Ultimately, for my defense of the new gamer and the new edition, my feelings about it are selfish. I'm such a picky game omnivore that I -assume- I'll hate parts of a game while loving others before I ever pick it up, and I only ever play with my own group anyway. I find...

    Defining its own Mythology

HERO is another obvious one. Tri-Stat dX (which is cheating kinda, it's a distillation of the rules) and the cyberpunk book Ex Machina (containing four micro-settings). Burning Wheel likes to say it doesn't, but it's the most LotR game I've ever seen without the word 'Gandalf' in the book, so...

    On The Horrible Naming

That 'forced flavor', some of it goofy, has been dogging this game since it got its first hardback cover. That most people are just used to looking past it now, and those that don't appear to feel "old + goofy" is inherently better than "new + goofy". Goofy is goofy, says I, and whether E.G.G...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

You're welcome to be unimpressed, but calling a failed attack roll a "miss" (save possibly on a roll of 1) suggests limited familiarity with the abstractions of armor and Hit Points as used in D&D. Armor doesn't make you harder to hit, and attack rolls under AC don't miss. A failed attack roll...

    On The Horrible Naming

'Tenser's Floating Disk' 'Robilar's Gambit' 'Black Lore of Moil' 'Mordenkainen's Disjunction*' 'Eagle Claw Attack' 'Falling Star Strike' 'Cloak of Elvenkind' 'Evard's Black Tentacles' I assume all of these and their forced flavor raised a similar level of stink when they were introduced, right...

To ALL ENWorlders: Did you play 1E AD&D?

Yes, but only a little bit.

what to do if you gave too much power?

I realize I'm anecdotal, but my players would ultimately rather let game-related stuff shake out in-game. So a mid-level party found a mighty artifact blade in some random cave. Maybe they can cheat the owner and win this awesome sword through their cunning. After 10 years we all still seem...

Best / most common "dip" class?

I only dip Sorcerer for specialist wizards, just to open up all the wands, staves, and scrolls from my prohibited schools again. :D

D&D 4E Concerned with 4e now, do you agree or not?

Probably more likely that there is both gold, the color of which or reference to which conveys a symbolic significance, and wyverns. EDIT: Slowed.
